Structural change now: DGB boss demands investments in northern Oberpfalz!

In the north Upper Palatinate, it is time for a fundamental structural change. This is emphasized by the DGB state chief Bernhard Stiedl in his recent speech in Weiden. His appeal is "not whine, but invest" to counter the creeping threat to democracy and the loss of structure in rural regions. The affecting circle is large: The earlier bloom of the glass, textile and ceramic industry has left its mark, and the region is suffering from the consequences of these structural breaks, such as [Oberpfalzecho.de] (https://www.oberpfalzecho.de/bagrag/dgb- Landes Leistender-in-weiden-nicht-gammer- Invested).

The concerns about the workplace reduction are not unfounded. Stiedl emphasizes that the companies, above all, do not invest in new technologies or bring their machines up to date. The potential in the region would not be exhausted: the technical infrastructure is given. University locations and technology centers are waiting for the correctly invested ideas.

Together for the transformation

The DGB sees a key role in the transformation process in the unions. They are committed to a socio-ecological change and good working conditions. The focus is on active, regional and participation -oriented structural development. The topics have already been addressed in the last election campaigns and coalition negotiations. The current coalition agreement aims to guarantee security and to promote the creation of regional transformation and qualification clusters, as on [dgb.de] (https://www.dgb.de/aktuelles/news/die-Herfransformation-der-koennen- Derk-proactive-Structural Policy-werden/).

The focus here is on supporting smaller companies and the increase in the joint task "Regional Business Development". This is intended to strengthen particularly structurally weak regions and offer people there new perspectives.

master the challenges

The Federal Government has already taken a step in the right direction: On July 3, 2024, it passed the equivalence report, which analyzes living conditions in Germany and proposed corresponding measures to strengthen equivalent living conditions. The report underlines regional inequality and the challenges that many structurally weak areas, especially in the east of Germany, accompanied. But also in West Germany, such as the North Upper Palatinate, these topics are explained by the Ministry of Economic Affairs at Federal Ministry of the Economics.de. In addition to the structural challenges, Stiedl vehemently pleads for a comprehensive care infrastructure in the region. Over 70,000 places are missing for children under the age of three in Bavaria - an urgent problem that not only affects the compatibility of work and family, but also affects the attractiveness of the region as a habitat and company location.

The discussions about economic course are far from over. Stiedl is already planning to discuss further steps in a further meeting with regional union representatives. The focus should be on topics such as location advertising, funding opportunities and strategies against wage dumping.

The DGB has created a comprehensive catalog of demands that analyzes the political situation and formulates clear answers to politics. "We have to use our possibilities and actively invest for a better morning," said Stiedl. It is clear: the North Upper Palatinate needs a breath of fresh air and a good knack for its future. Only then will it be possible to master the economic and social challenges and to bloom the region again.
