Summer serenades in Weiden: Marienbad and rain celebrations combined!
The opening of this year's summer serenades took place last Sunday afternoon in the picturesque Max Reger Park in Weiden. Despite the dreary, rainy weather, around a hundred music lovers flocked to this cultural highlight, which is all about friendship with the sister city of Marienbad. The event, led by oberpfalzecho.de, transformed the park into an atmospheric backdrop for music and conviviality.
The concert began with the Original Salonorchester Marienbad under the direction of Vladimir Smutný, which impressed with a colorful program. The audience could look forward to famous melodies, including the overture from “A Morning, a Noon, an Evening in Vienna” by Franz von Suppé and the aria “Adele” from Johann Strauss’ “Die Fledermaus”. The famous waltzes like “Wienerblut” also put everyone in a good mood. The brilliant concertmaster Hana Hložková from the Prague Opera and the soprano Gabriela Kopperová contributed significantly to the festive atmosphere.
Culture meets friendship
Mayor Jens Meyer and Mayor Reinhold Wildenauer welcomed those present at the opening ceremony and emphasized the importance of the cultural partnership between Weiden and Marienbad. The head of the cultural department, Sabine Guhl, summed it up: “There is no such thing as bad weather, just bad clothing.” With this positive attitude, the concert became an unforgettable experience despite the weather.
The event will continue regularly until August 10th and promises special musical highlights in the future. Event manager Gertrud Wittmann has put together a varied program that will conclude with a surprise concert at the finale—financed by a donation box on the stage.
