Jürgen Meyer: Weiden's new hope for a breath of fresh air in the town hall!

There was really something going on in the Gustav von Schlör Hall in Weiden last night. The citizens' list presented its candidate for the office of mayor: Jürgen Meyer, a 50-year-old city councilor and radio presenter who has long had roots in Weiden. He was officially nominated with 32 votes and is now ready to bring a breath of fresh air into city politics. Oberpfalzecho reports that Prof. Dr. Theodor Klotz addressed the urgent need for courageous designers who can really get things done in Weiden.

The Citizens' List has set itself the goal of countering disillusionment with politics and the gridlock in the city. Jürgen Meyer, who heads the Integrated Control Center Upper Palatinate North and is also active as a hypnosis coach, would like to venture out with his program. His plans include, among other things, a city beach in Max Reger Park and more cultural offerings in everyday life. “Weiden can do more,” emphasizes Meyer, with a clear focus on humanity and participation.

Innovative ideas for pastures

The Bürgerliste still has big plans: In addition to the city beach, the State Garden Show is to be brought to Weiden, and the popular Raunachtlauf is to be retained. In order to finance all these projects, Meyer is thinking of a new commercial area. It is important to him to make the town hall a welcoming place for citizens. The election campaign is supported by the experienced advertising agency Artviper, headed by Laila Sonntag, which actively supports the citizens' list. The mottoes “Fresh and cheeky” and “Bright minds for pastures” are intended to underline the message of the initiative.

The Citizens' List, which was founded in 2007 as a spinoff from the CSU, sees itself as an independent force that has the city's well-being in mind. Meyer is sure: “We have the energy and the ideas to design pastures!”

Commitment to the city pigeons

Another important topic in Weiden is the city pigeon initiative, which advocates for the well-being of pigeons and a better cityscape. Recently reported the citizen list about exchanging real eggs for artificial ones in order to regulate the pigeons' excessive breeding instinct. This is done in collaboration with around 25 volunteers who have already replaced around 2,000 eggs.

With around 1,300 animals, Weiden has a significant pigeon problem - that's four times higher density than in Augsburg! Many of these pigeons are injured or sick, and the initiative plans to discuss the issue with the city council again soon to find sustainable solutions. The city's support is needed here, because the owners of the breeding grounds also have to take on more responsibility.

If anyone would like to help, they can contact the Stadttaubeninitiative at tauben-weiden@web.de. Because the commitment to these animals could also be a step towards more beautiful pastures.
