Pilgrimage to Maria Baumgärtle: A day full of faith and community!

The KAB/VKL group from Unterankenreute went on a trip to the historic pilgrimage site of Maria Baumgärtle on Sunday, June 1st. Despite the rainy weather, the participants didn't let it spoil their good mood and drove full of anticipation towards the destination, about 15 kilometers from Mindelheim. As the Swabian reported, the route led over the motorway to Erkheim to the “Mariä Opferung” pilgrimage church.

After arriving, the participants experienced a moving service. The priest reported on the fascinating history of the church, which was consecrated in 1883 and has a long tradition as a place of pilgrimage. The origins go back to 1721, when Christoph Reichsgraf von Muggenthal placed a replica of the Altötting miraculous image in his garden and had a chapel built. The Baumgärtle quickly developed into a popular destination for pilgrims Horeb noted.

Culinary delights and exploration

After the service, the excursionists were able to treat themselves to a hearty lunch at the Landgasthof Maucher, directly opposite the church. This culinary stop not only provided a welcome refreshment, but also the opportunity to explore the church's surroundings. The rose garden and the large Stations of the Cross were particularly inviting for a relaxing walk.

In the afternoon the route led to the Katzbruimühle in Eutenhausen, where the participants arrived around 2:30 p.m. There was a coffee break there, which many enjoyed, before the well-preserved museum grain mill, some of which dates back to the 17th century, was visited. This historic mill is not only an architectural gem, but also a piece of living history.

Conclusion and words of thanks

Returning from an educational and sociable day, board member Robert Bierenstiel gave a summary of the experience and warmly thanked the participants. The event not only strengthened the community within the KAB/VKL group, but also offered a look into the eventful history of one of the region's oldest pilgrimage sites. Despite secularization in the 19th century and the challenges associated with it, the place remained a center of attraction for believers and visitors, and the miraculous image continues to attract pilgrims to this day.

As you can see, it becomes clear how valuable such excursions are in not only maintaining the religious heritage, but also strengthening social interaction in the community.
