Oliver Briemle is now in charge of the sports badge in Unterallgäu-Memmingen!
A new wind is blowing in the Unterallgäu-Memmingen sports district: Oliver Briemle has taken over responsibility for the sports badge. He replaces Rudi Broda, who worked as a sports badge examiner for over 60 years and has had an impressive career. Broda himself was a district representative for almost 45 years and a sports badge representative for the Swabia district for more than 20 years. Under his aegis, the German sports badge experienced a boom.
Every year, more than a million people in Germany take the German Sports Badge, which is awarded for outstanding physical achievements in the areas of endurance, strength, speed and coordination. Over 50% of participants can look forward to receiving an award - a decoration of honor from the Federal Republic of Germany that is associated with the character of a medal. Last year, a total of 1,068 badges were acquired in the Unterallgäu-Memmingen sports district, of which 387 were in schools and 681 in sports clubs. This impressively shows how popular the sport is and that taking part in this sporting competition is not only a challenge, but also great fun!
The passion for sport
Oliver Briemle is not only a new speaker, but also a passionate athlete. Since his youth, he has taken the sports badge a total of 52 times. He is currently the head of the athletics department at TSV Bad Wörishofen. For him it is clear: “There is something there!” because he would like to further expand the range of sports badges available in clubs and schools. In addition to personal motivation, it is important to him to get young people excited about sport.
The BLSV sports district Unterallgäu-Memmingen, chaired by Benjamin Adelwarth, will support Briemle's commitment. Sports badges test fitness and commitment in a variety of disciplines - an ideal framework for promoting team spirit and fitness, as well as providing access to sport for all age groups. What is being achieved in the region is really impressive!
A look at the history of the sports badge
But how did the German Sports Badge actually come about? It was originally introduced in Germany in 1912 and was based on a Swedish model. Initially the award was only available to men, but since 1921 women have also been allowed to acquire the DSA. Over time, the requirements were increasingly adapted and in 1951 they were divided into different age groups. It wasn't until 1984 that the 10 millionth sports badge was awarded, and in 2008 the impressive turnaround came: for the first time, the millionth mark of sports badges awarded annually was exceeded.
The German Sports Badge not only promotes physical exercise, but also supports clubs in making their offerings attractive, attracting new members and emphasizing the diversity in their sports area. Club preparation meetings help those interested to optimally prepare for the sports badge.
In the future, Briemle will continue to push forward his vision of a sports badge in the region so that many more citizens have the opportunity to demonstrate their fitness and team spirit.
