The 42-year-old manages the Biolandhof Grenzmühle, has an apprenticeship as a farmer, gardener and is also master butcher. His practical experience and commitment to sustainable agriculture benefit him in his political work.

In addition, Schmidt initiated projects for the poppy seed and deals with the breeding of his own poppy varieties in a research project. Politically, he is firmly anchored in the region: he is the group leader of the Greens in the Tirschenreuth district council and in the Erbendorf city council as well as chairman of Bioland e.V., the largest eco -cultivation association in Germany.
