New bicycle parking systems at Straubinger schools: safe and modern!

At the Straubinger schools, something is happening! In a remarkable initiative to improve the cycling infrastructure, four schools were chosen to obtain new and modernized bicycle parking systems. This measure is intended to make the everyday life of the students more comfortable and promote the securing of their bicycles. Straubing reports that the St. Josef primary and middle school, the Marianne-Rosenbaum vocational school, the Johannes-Turmair-Gymnasium and the Ludwigsgymnasium are in focus.

The plans provide comprehensive improvements that look a lot further into the future. The aim is to increase and structure the storage options through simple but effective measures. At the St. Josef primary and middle school, for example, a total of 124 parking spaces will go up, while in the Ludwigsgymnasium 206 modern double-decker parkers are installed, which are also equipped with e-bike charging stations. In general, a qualitative upgrade is to be carried out with a total investment of around 200,000 euros, which also does not neglect aesthetic aspects.

The Ludwigsgymnasium receives special attention, which, in addition to a significantly higher capacity, can also score with a green roofing and colored grid facades. These are to be additionally upgraded by ranking plants. Security also plays a crucial role, which is why an integrated lighting system will find its way into the new facilities.

The funding for this project comes as part of the "Bike + Ride" offensive of the future-Environment-Gesellschaft (Zug) gGmbH, which pays generous 85% of the costs. It is also interesting that funding applications can be made at any time. Certain documents are necessary that prove the need and the cheapest design of the facilities. The use of an easy online application is also required.

The initiative in Straubing is in the context of national efforts to increase the attractiveness of cycling in Germany. According to information from the Federal Ministry of Digital and Transport (BMDV), considerable funds are to be invested in cycling infrastructure by 2030. This funding is a step in the right direction, because the need for bicycle parking systems is enormous: a total of around 1.5 million new parking spaces are required in Germany. Mobility Forum reports that financial support for planning and construction of bicycle park houses was also set up at traffic junction.
