The Gäubodenvolksfest in Straubing, which will take place from August 8th to 18th, 2024, is in the starting blocks and is already generating anticipation. Preparations are in full swing, as this year the organizers are expecting no fewer than 1.3 million guests - a considerable increase that will amaze the city with its 53,000 inhabitants. Two impressive 80 meter high towers will be visible in the festival's silhouette, giving the traditional folk festival a modern touch. BR reports that In addition to the huge towers, an extensive supporting program with around 60 cultural and sporting events awaits visitors.
A special focus of the folk festival are the festival tents, where seven large tents offer space for around 27,500 guests. The Festbier beer is offered at prices between 12.90 and 12.95 euros, and half a fried chicken also costs around 13.50 euros. The prices for non-alcoholic drinks are also falling for the first time by up to 50 cents. This could prove to be a good deal for anyone thirsty! IDOWA informs that The organizers are also thinking about families, because on the children's and family days on August 12th and 18th there are half fares and attractive special offers.
Novelties and attractions
The Gäubodenvolksfest doesn't just have a lot to offer in terms of cuisine. The games and rides have been upgraded: Visitors can look forward to the new “Jules Verne Tower,” an exciting ride in the giant chain plane, as well as the wild water ride, which has a Bavarian design and is equipped with two shooting rides. The “Sky Fall” ride with a 360-degree panoramic view will also catapult visitors to dizzying heights. In addition, the Phaenomenon, a 360-degree virtual reality simulation, will be presented in Straubing for the first time.
To ensure guests have a pleasant experience, three drinking water fountains for complimentary refreshments and a misting system to cool down on hot days are also provided. There are also innovations in terms of safety: Carrying deer trappers is no longer tolerated.
An attraction for everyone
The Gäubodenvolksfest has a long tradition and has established itself as the second largest folk festival in Bavaria after the Oktoberfest. The official opening will take place on the first Saturday of the festival, and Agriculture Minister Michaela Kaniber (CSU) will give the speech. As the BR reports, will conclude the festival with a large fireworks display on the last day, which is clearly visible from the festival site.
The numbers speak for themselves: According to a study by the IfD Allensbach, a large number of people in Germany are interested in visiting large folk festivals, which could bring an additional increase in visitors to the Gäubodenvolksfest. Statista has published the data, which leave no doubt: folk festivals are hot and the anticipation for the Gäubodenvolksfest couldn't be greater.
