From gardening to life support: Anton Peters 80 years of courage!

A celebration of joy of life was celebrated in Starnberg on September 17, 2025, as Anton Peter was able to celebrate his 80th birthday. The jubilarian, who was born on September 15, 1945 in Seefeld, is a well-known face in the Lebenshilfe Starnberg community, where he has led an active and fulfilled life for 36 years. His story is one of challenges, but also of tireless commitment and warm camaraderie.

Growing up in Drößling, where he spent his childhood with his parents, siblings Angelika and Michael, and a loyal dog, Anton developed a passion for plants and gardens at an early age. Working in his father's gardening business laid the foundation for his green dexterity. Despite his early school days in Oberalting, his path was not always easy; When he was just 15 years old, he was diagnosed with epilepsy, which denied him both schooling and the opportunity to become an apprentice.

A new home and a fulfilling working life

But fate offered Anton other opportunities: at the age of 27, he started working in the Garatshausen workshop for the disabled. This experience was crucial for him because it allowed him to integrate socially and develop meaningful friendships. After the workshop closed, he found a place at the Isar-Würm-Lech workshops in Machtlfing, where he worked in various areas until his retirement.

After his parents died, Anton spent three years with his sister before moving to the Lebenshilfe Prinzenweg residential home in Starnberg in 1989. In 2007 he found a new home in the senior living group on Leutstettener Straße. Here he was not only involved as a resident, but was also chairman of the residents' representatives for several years. His help in the kitchen, where he was responsible for washing up and baking cakes and is still responsible for making coffee today, is evidence of his active and sociable nature.

A big birthday and a look into the future

Anton invited over 40 guests to his 80th birthday, including roommates, dorm staff, family and friends. Depending on the weather, a barbecue in the garden or a menu from the butcher was planned. A musical highlight will be the brass band from Pöcking, which will give the festival a festive touch.

Lebenshilfe Starnberg, for which Anton Peter was active for so many years, not only stands for individual support, but also works to create a welcoming environment. The new building with modern rooms, some with their own bathrooms, and a new kitchen in the common room are currently nearing completion. A garden, currently still in the development phase, will provide an even better quality of life with trees and a small fountain and will warmly welcome new residents, as will be signaled by a message on the door. Residents can look forward to a green oasis that will create space for meetings and relaxation.

Anton Peter's life is an example of how, despite all adversities, a fulfilled life par excellence is possible. The support from Lebenshilfe not only gave him a place in society, but also gave him countless memories and friendships. merkur.de and kreisbote.de impressively show how important social integration and support are.
