Mourning for Pastor Werner Haas: E-bike accident shocks the community
We have received sad news from the region: the Catholic dean Werner Haas has died at the age of 60. The tragic incident occurred on the night of August 12th when he had an accident while riding his e-bike. Loud South German newspaper An uninvolved road user found him lifeless in a meadow on Tuesday. The accident appears to have happened without any outside influence and leaves us in deep sadness.
Werner Haas was not only a committed priest, but also a sporting personality. Born in Wangen im Allgäu in 1965, he was ordained a priest in 1998 after initially studying electrical engineering. Haas was head of the Starnberg parish from 2007 to 2017 and most recently held the Pfronten-Nesselwang parish community. His planned retirement is now a long way off. He has also been Dean of Marktoberdorf since January 2022.
A life full of passion
Werner Haas is known for his enthusiasm for sports. He was active in skiing, tennis and table tennis and won the German Seminary Football Championship in the 1990s. He also won the Starnberg circuit cycling race in 2007 and showed that he also had a knack for sporting challenges in his free time. His final stop was a place where he took not only the pastoral work seriously, but also the life he lived.
The funeral ceremonies with burial will take place on August 19th at 1:45 p.m. in the parish church in Wohmbrechts. Here the community will come together to say goodbye to a valued member. In times like these, we realize once again how valuable community and support are in difficult times.
