New dormitory in Starnberg: space for 26 residents and more inclusion!
In the Starnberg district, Lebenshilfe has taken an important step towards an inclusive society by expanding its housing offering. 26 people with disabilities can now find a home in a newly opened dormitory on Hanfelder Straße, which has been supplemented by a modern two-story extension. This will increase the previous capacity by eight places, which is particularly pleasing since stagnation in the provision of inpatient places can be observed nationwide. Loud South German newspaper The new residents live in shared apartments, each consisting of four people and equipped with private rooms, a shared bathroom, kitchens and living areas. This is where everyday life takes place for the older and younger residents - a new phase of life, quite comparable to students who leave their parents' house for the first time.
The picture of 68-year-old Babsi, who is happily painting letters on her desk, is particularly touching. She has lived in the dormitory for years and shows how much joy and independence the new living arrangements offer people. The new building at Franceshof, which was realized in collaboration with Drees & Sommer SE, places great value on accessibility and enables residents to live a self-determined lifestyle. The first tenants have already moved in and the fourth resident is expected in mid-November.
Modern living spaces and leisure activities
The new complex offers more than just living space. A central courtyard with a fountain creates a place of relaxation and meeting for all residents. The spacious outdoor area was designed to be close to nature and offers numerous opportunities for spending time together. There is also a training apartment where people with disabilities can try out living independently - a big step towards independence!
Lebenshilfe in the Starnberg district is involved with a total of four residential buildings and thus looks after 83 places. Around 350 employees look after the needs of a total of 900 children, young people and adults with disabilities. The main goal is to actively promote participation in social life. Many residents work in the Isar-Würm-Lech workshops during the day, which not only gives them a daily structure but also allows them to make social contacts.
Sustainability and future developments
Another advantage of the new building is the environmentally friendly energy supply, which was achieved through a heat pump and a solar system. This shows that Lebenshilfe not only has the needs of the residents in mind, but also takes its responsibility towards the environment seriously. The innovative approach also includes the creation of two-room apartments for short-term care, which increases the flexibility of the offerings.
As the Press portal reports, Lebenshilfe is setting an example for modern and sustainable living space with this opening. The barrier-free design of the annex makes it clear that every person, regardless of their abilities, can lead a self-determined and fulfilling life. By creating these living spaces, Lebenshilfe makes a valuable contribution to inclusion and improving the quality of life in the region.
The positive response and enthusiasm of the new residents are an incentive to push projects like this forward. Art, creativity and community – all of this flows into life at the location and gives hope and joy.
