Great selfies with Ludwig II and Sisi: Art course starts in Starnberg!
The time has soon come in downtown Starnberg: From Friday, July 4th, 2025, the new Instagram course with the title “Find Ludwig and meet Sisi” will open. This is a homage to the two famous historical figures, King Ludwig II and Empress Elisabeth, which are presented in the form of large-format works of art. Ideal for selfies, these pop art pieces measure an impressive four square meters, creating a perfect backdrop for social media. The Starnberg Art Association is responsible for the creative implementation, supported by artists from the region and the initiator Peter Knoblich. Mercury reports that the art event falls on “Downtown Friday,” which is celebrated every first Friday of the month from May to September.
Visitors can look forward to a fun weekend, because parallel to the Instagram course, retailers in eleven cities in the Oberland are offering special promotions under the motto “Art, Culture & Culinary”. These thematic highlights can be recognized by the pink carpet in the participating stores, where sophisticated culinary offerings such as royal sparkling wine, violet ice cream and Kaiserschmarrn can be found. And that's not all: a free tour of the course at the Starnberg ice cream workshop on Kirchplatz starts at 10 a.m. and lasts about an hour. Here the artists can present their works and provide some insights into their creative world. A voucher for the delicious violet ice cream awaits every participant!

The Starnberg Art Association has expressly thanked all participants and visitors and sees this event not only as a local attraction, but also as a possible source of inspiration for other cities. Starnberg.de highlights that every visitor can record and share their experiences on social media, which adds extra sparkle to the event.
The idea behind this creative concept is also inspired by existing trends in art in public spaces, such as the installation “DISTANZ/ABSTAND/DISTANCE” by Eva Gottwald, which stimulates thought with its reflection on public space. Eva Gottwald has shown how art and the public can interact in a variety of ways.
Overall, this event in Starnberg promises a very special experience for art lovers and pleasure seekers alike. We can only hope that many visitors take the opportunity to experience not only the art but also the culinary highlights of the city center!
