AOA building in Gauting: Refugee accommodation closed, demolition planned!

Gauting, Deutschland - The chapter of refugee accommodation in the AOA building in Gauting has now ended. After three years in which the premises served as accommodation for refugees, the last residents have now moved out. The district office had rented the AOA premises since May 2022 to give up to 220 people a new home. District Administrator Stefan Frey announces: "The AoA chapter is complete." His thanks go to the municipality of Gauting, the dedicated team of helpers and the Diehl family, who acted as a landlord. The move began a few weeks ago, with many of the relocated people now housed in new accommodations in Tutzing, Feldafing and Starnberg-Percha, while the other moves into the extended facility in Starnberg-Percha. A total of 4051 refugees currently live in the district of Starnberg, including 1780 from Ukraine and 2271 from other countries, such as ours-wuermtal.de.

The move from the AOA building is not only a step for the residents, but also marks a fresh start for the building itself. After the last refugees moved out, the former factory building is now empty again. Subsequent use is already being planned: 90 new apartments, a supermarket, a café and a kindergarten with 30 places over 1200 m², are to be built on the site in the coming years. These projects are part of the "Patchway-Anger" project, which was initiated by the municipality of Gauting to create new living space and to improve the living environment for people in the region. The public plan design runs until July 2, and the land use planning should be completed by the end of 2025, such as merkur.de underlined.

the building and its history

A look at the history of the AOA building shows that this location has a long tradition. Aoa was founded in 1955 by Josef Müller, who launched the company as a aviation supplier. In 1979 fate started when Müller died and his daughter Christa continued the company until her death in 2003. The inheritance then went to the Diehlgruppe in Nuremberg. In the 1970s, AOA had up to 400 employees and planned the construction of a new hall, but had to do without expansion due to noise protection requirements. Finally, the company headquarters to Gilching was relocated, and the building in Gauting has stood empty since then. The decision to use it as a refugee accommodation was finally a pragmatic solution, which, however, has come to an end after the last residents moved out.

With the planned demolition of the AOA building in 2026, if everything goes according to plan, the old industrial architecture will give way to modern residential use. The anticipation for the planned new buildings as part of the project is already great - this shows that a good knack for the development of the living space is proven in Gauting and that the community meets the challenges of living space deficiency with innovative concepts.
