Tornados season 2025: Bavaria by storm - reports on unexpected vertebral towers!

With the summer, not only the heat comes, but also the tornados season in Bavaria, and the last few weeks have shown us impressively that nature can sometimes be wild and unpredictable. According to the current balance of the German Weather Service (DWD), there has been a remarkable in the last two weeks Increase in tornado cases that has influenced the weather situation in Germany as a whole.

In Bavaria, violent storms caused excitement, especially on May 28, when a confirmed Tornado in Untertheres near Schweinfurt was observed. In addition, there is another tornado case in Schweinfurt, which, however, does not find itself on the official DWD card, as well as a suspicion from Döhlau, northeast of Hof, which was registered on March 25. A total of 13 confirmed Tornados and six plausible cases have been recorded in Germany. These figures suggest that the Tornados season 2025 has so far been relatively low compared to the average number of 49 tornados per year.

Beautifier of the tornados season

The season, as the DWD reports, recorded on May 1 with the appearance of several new tornados. The strongest tornado was registered on June 4 in Donaustetten near Ulm, where it covered a distance of 15.5 kilometers and caused damage to the strength of if2 (estimated wind speed up to 220 km/h). In comparison, new data show that the activity of tornados in Germany has increased in recent years: in 2024 a total of 1034 tornados have been recorded throughout Europe, the highest number so far, such as the European Severe Storm Laboratory (ESSL) confirmed.

The current research show that fluctuations in the climate and improved observation techniques play a role in the increase in torn eagle reports. In Bavaria, the tornado probability is increased until September, especially in August and September, where water trousers can also occur on the North and Baltic Sea. The DWD point out that our preparations and warning systems are decisive to minimize the dangers of these extreme weather conditions.

The challenges of tornado observation

Although the number of registered tornados is still behind the average this year, the concern for increasing storm events is real. The year 2024, which showed a total of 48 tornados in Germany, let the alarm bells ring. Even the weakest tornadoes can cause serious damage. Experts recommend keeping an eye on the data and developments of the coming years in order to better assess possible long -term trends and take adequate measures.

Therefore it remains to be seen how the season will develop. The population should continue to be attentive and prepare for possible storms in good time. Finally, if you plan well, you are on the safe side - especially if the weather plays.
