Climate crisis and health: Lectures in Schweinfurt for heat adjustment!
In the city of Schweinfurt, an important event is at the door: A public lecture series on the topic of "climate crisis and health" will take place on June 24th and 25th June 2025 in the town hall hallway. The lectures organized in cooperation with AOK Schweinfurt and the local agenda 2030 are aimed at local politicians, urban planners, construction managers and interested citizens.
On Tuesday, June 24th, Dr. Hannah Otto from the German Alliance Climate Change and Health (clever). Her lecture entitled "Climate Crisis and Health - From Knowledge to Act" addresses the far -reaching effects of the climate crisis on our health. In 2023 there were already around 3,100 heat note in Germany, which illustrates urgency to deal with extreme weather events and new disease risks. The aim is to focus on everyday action and political decisions in order to alleviate the health consequences. According to helmholtz-klima.de, higher temperatures are particularly harmful to endangered groups such as older people and children and therefore climate policy action is essential.
urban planning in the context of the climate crisis
A day later, on Wednesday, June 25th, Prof. Dr. Lutz Katzschner, an expert in environmental meteorology, talk about the challenges for urban planning with regard to climate change. His lecture entitled "Climate Change and overheating - Adaptation to the heat of tomorrow" will respond to the importance of cold air in urban rooms in order to counteract urban overheating. The high temperatures in large cities often arise from the heat island effect, which causes additional warming, as is also the case on helmholtz-klima.de.
A special focus is on the need to integrate health -related aspects into urban planning in order to improve the habitat for all residents. Prof. Dr. Ing. Sabine Baumgart, an expert in sustainable urban development, emphasizes that urban planning can prevent and reduce stress. The collecting of data on air and noise pollution as well as the creation of health-promoting infrastructures are crucial for the quality of life in urban areas, as shown in center-klimaan adaptation.de.
free participation and information
The lectures are free of charge and registration is not required. This is an excellent opportunity to find out about the connections between climate change, urban planning and health and to get into talking directly with experts.
