Rosenheim cleans up: Scrap bikes are threatened with disposal!

Since yesterday, June 23, 2025, a campaign has been running in Rosenheim against scrap bikes that detract from the cityscape and take up valuable parking spaces. Mayor Andreas März emphasizes how important it is to remove these outdated bicycles from circulation in order to make room for functional bikes. The measures extend over a week and affect both the bicycle parking garage at the train station and the overcrowded bicycle racks in places such as Südtiroler Platz and Klepperstrasse. Citizens now have until June 29th to pick up their scrap bikes, which, according to city officials, will be marked with a conspicuous banderole.

The criteria for this marking are clear: rusted chains, missing components and bent frames indicate that the bicycles have not been used for a long time. From July 21st, all unclaimed bikes will be disposed of by the city. This measure is intended not only to relieve the burden on parking spaces, but also to increase the visual attractiveness of the city.

Growth for cycling

The city of Rosenheim is not only planning the scrap bike campaign, but also the expansion of bicycle parking spaces in the city center and around the train station. Another goal is to clean the existing bicycle parking garage, which is scheduled to begin on July 21st. Not all parking spaces will be available during this time, but the public will be informed of the exact evacuation days via notices in the parking garage.

The new bicycle parking garage at Südtiroler Platz is a real treat for all cyclists. Completed since June 6, 2019, it offers space for 884 bicycles on five parking levels and therefore sufficient capacity. There are also four parking spaces for bicycle trailers in the basement. To increase user safety, there are special women's parking spaces on the ground floor, which are particularly useful in the evenings.

Safety and comfort

The bicycle parking garage is not only illuminated at night, but is also equipped with a perforated facade that ensures transparency and security. Video surveillance and emergency call stations that are directly connected to the police provide additional security. There are 30 charging lockers available for cyclists who want to recharge their batteries. Parking itself is free, which makes the offer even more attractive.

Overall, the city wants to use these measures to promote the use of bicycles while at the same time meeting the needs of cyclists. The latest developments show that Rosenheim has a good knack for innovative transport projects.
