Revitalize friendship: Rosenheim and Briançon celebrate 50 years of partnership!

An important trip recently took a 36-person delegation from Rosenheim to Briançon. The stay in the French twin town, which took place from September 28th to October 4th, was all about German-French friendship and followed the 50th anniversary of the town twinning last year. In this context, Grit Harbeck, chairwoman of the Briançon – Rosenheim town twinning association, emphasized the need for regular visits in order to maintain the ties between the two cities. “It is important to get to know the local people in order to strengthen friendship in the future,” she explained. Rosenheim.de reported.

The delegation undertook a variety of excursions during their stay, including visits to a coal mine, an abbey, numerous churches and chapels and an archaeological park. An official reception in the town hall underlined the value of city friendship as a valuable contribution to understanding between peoples. Briançon, located at an altitude of around 1,300 meters in the Alps and bordering Italy, is known as one of the highest fortified cities. The city has also been a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 2008 as part of the “Fortifications of Vauban” ensemble.

Current visit from Briançon

OVB Online berichtet über die umfassenden Programme, die für den Besuch zusammengestellt wurden.

A highlight of the program was a hike through the Kaisertal, while other delegation members took a trip to Kufstein. The group also experienced an impressive piano concert by Igor Levit in the Culture and Congress Center (Kuko) and the “Ice Age” exhibition in the locomotive shed. Other planned activities included a trip to Berchtesgaden, a visit to the waste-to-energy plant and trips to Munich and the Nicklheimer Filze.

A look into the future

The crowning conclusion of the visit is a Bavarian evening in the Happinger Bürgerhaus, which features typical food, entertainment and Bavarian dances. The delegation looks back on their shared experiences and draws a positive conclusion about the importance of German-French friendship. The sister city support association is still looking for active members and interested parties who want to support the friendship between the two cities. These mutual visits not only examine personal relationships, but also contribute to better mutual understanding and cultural networking.

The town twinning between Briançon and Rosenheim, which was launched in 1974, is the oldest friendly connection of this kind in Rosenheim. The exchange not only promotes local culture, but also social cohesion. The city is already looking forward to the next encounters and joint projects that will keep this exchange alive.
