Rail traffic in the Allgäu: Trains will soon be rolling again between Kempten and Oberstdorf!

In southern Oberallgäu, track construction work has been noticeable since the beginning of October. Many commuters and travelers are affected by the complete closure of the railway line between Kempten, Oberstdorf and Oberstaufen. But there is good news: from Tuesday, October 28th, most train connections should be available again. As the Allgäu newspaper reported, the rail replacement service (SEV) will be maintained until October 30th. In recent weeks, travelers have had to resort to alternative transport options while the tracks are being spruced up.

The trains will be put back into operation on Tuesday morning: from Kempten to Oberstdorf from 4:35 a.m., and the first trains will roll in the opposite direction at 5:40 a.m. But not all connection courses are fully available. There are still bus lines for trips to Oberstaufen that leave at 5 a.m. and 5:55 a.m. before trains start running again.

Construction site timetable and transfers

It is important that travelers check the times in the DB Navigator or contact DB customer service directly on 089/20355000. The night connection from Kempten to Oberstdorf remains, but a change in Immenstadt is necessary. In the opposite direction there are bus connections from Oberstdorf from 4.26 a.m. and 5 a.m. that change in Immenstadt.

Another challenge for commuters are planned construction sites that will be carried out throughout Germany by 2036. These measures lead to extensive restrictions on many railway routes. According to that ADAC The closure of over 40 important sections is expected to affect numerous timetables well beyond 2030. For example, the route between Hamburg and Berlin will be completely closed from August 1, 2025 to April 30, 2026.

The effects of major construction sites

The national changes also have an impact on train connections in the region. The current construction work in Oberallgäu shows once again how important it is to modernize and maintain the rail network. The measures taken within the framework of the ADAC and other sources are necessary in the long term to ensure reliable rail transport.

For travelers in the region, this means that patience is required. The current work is a step towards improved connections, even if the changes often take a toll on commuters. A good hand when planning trips is important to maintain in order to master the challenges on the rails well.
