Hersbruck is investing 700,000 euros in a new pedestrian bridge!

In Hersbruck, construction work has begun on the renovation of the pedestrian bridge on Chotieschauer Weg/Obermühlweg. The Free State of Bavaria is supporting this important replacement building with a whopping 700,000 euros in funding. This was assured by the Bavarian Transport Minister Christian Bernreiter. The total costs of the project amount to around 1.54 million euros, of which a good 891,000 euros were recognized as eligible for funding. These funds come from the Bavarian Municipal Transport Financing Act (BayGVFG), which regulates the financial support of infrastructure projects in Bavaria, such as Government of Upper Bavaria explained.

The bridge plays a crucial role as it connects several important infrastructures, including the high school, school and sports center and leisure areas. The new replacement building began in May 2025 with the construction of a temporary bridge for pedestrians and cyclists. This is expected to be used until mid-August 2026 before the old bridge is demolished and the new overpass is built.

Relief for the city budget

With the approved funding of 700,000 euros, the city of Hersbruck can significantly reduce the burden on the city's budget. The financing issues are often a challenge for communities like this Bavarian state government underlined. Well-developed transport infrastructure is not only crucial for the mobility of citizens, but also for the competitiveness of the region. The annual deficit for maintaining and operating the existing transport network in Bavaria is currently at least 7.2 billion euros.

The Free State therefore sees the need for a reliable financing system for all modes of transport and has already taken measures to increase funding for the maintenance and expansion of state roads. The upcoming expansion in Hersbruck shows that even smaller projects must not be overlooked in order to ensure the quality of life and security of citizens in the long term.

Complex application procedures

In order to receive funding, applications must be submitted to the responsible district government by September 1st of the year preceding the planned start of construction. Numerous documents and evidence are required, as the government of Upper Bavaria explains. A smooth application process is crucial to actually receiving financial support.

This initiative not only improves the infrastructure in Hersbruck, but also sends a signal that Bavaria is on the way to a modern and functional transport infrastructure. The project strives for transparent implementation in coordination with the government of Middle Franconia, which manages and disburses the funds.
