Summer fairy tale of voices: choir festival delights 115,000 visitors in Nuremberg!
Last weekend, the German Choir Festival 2025 took place in Nuremberg under the motto “Voices of Diversity”. From May 29th to June 1st, over 420 choirs came together and demonstrated their skills in more than 620 concerts, competitions and participation activities. Among them were the choirs Concordia Liederkranz e.V. from Ettingshausen and the singers' association 1854 Staufenberg e.V. (Chor Cantiamo), which were directed by Axel Pfeiffer.
The journey to this special event took place on “Father’s Day” with two buses that stopped in Beuern for a musical serenade. Prominent personalities such as Christian Wulff, Frank-Walter Steinmeier and Markus Söder spoke at the opening ceremony at the main market in Nuremberg. Mayor Marcus König described the festival as a “summer fairy tale of voices” and the entire event was characterized by an overwhelming peacefulness - the police confirmed that there were no significant incidents.
A festival of superlatives
The numbers speak for themselves: around 14,000 singers from numerous choirs performed and attracted more than 115,000 guests to the city. A total of 628 concerts took place over the four days of the festival, which met with a great response from visitors. Christian Wulff, former Federal President and President of the German Choir Association, emphasized the importance of the choir festival as a place for togetherness.
The two choirs from Ettingshausen and Staufenberg had a lot to offer. They took part in the state presentation of the Hessian Singers' Association and gave a concert in the Sebaldus Church under the title “Don't be afraid of new sounds”. The audience was particularly enthusiastic and gave standing ovations after the performances of “Laudate Dominum” (Knut Nystedt) and “Sanctus” (Jan Sandström). The premiere piece “Zeit zu(m) Husten” by Alwin M. Schronen also received much applause.
Shared sounds and new friendships
Another highlight were the performances in the historic town hall hall, where the Concordia Liederkranz presented the “Jagdlied” by Felix Mendelssohn Bartholdy and “Kum ba yah, my Lord”. Cantiano contributed “Marienlob” (Sergej Rachmaninov) and “It’s my life” (arr. by Oliver Gies). The crowning conclusion was a common song that moved everyone present - the folk song “I went emo walking” (Gunther Erdmann) and the “Abendlied” (Josef Gabriel Reinberger) were sung together, followed by the encore “An Irish Blessing”.
After the concerts there was a joint dinner where new friendships were made between the choir members. After an unforgettable experience, the singers began their return journey on Sunday, enriched by the memories and experiences of the choir festival. The clubs are always happy to welcome new members who want to share their passion for music.
Overall, the German Choir Festival impressively shows how music brings people together and creates a feeling of community. We can only hope that such events continue to take place successfully and peacefully.
