Take the train? Restrictions on Würzburg-Frankfurt and Nuremberg routes!

From Sunday, June 16, 2025, rail drivers on the routes between Würzburg and Aschaffenburg as well as Würzburg and Nuremberg will have to prepare for restrictions. The reason for this is extensive construction work by Deutsche Bahn, which will last until June 22, 2025. In the evening hours from 7 p.m. to 3 a.m., service on the affected lines, especially RE54, RE55 and RE10, will be severely affected.

There may be timetable changes on the Würzburg – Aschaffenburg – Frankfurt route until Wednesday evening. Travelers should be prepared for replacement buses to be deployed on these nights to compensate for delays wherever possible. On the Würzburg – Nuremberg route, passengers also have to use buses between Dettelbach and Rottendorf.

Important information and recommendations

Deutsche Bahn recommends that all travelers inform themselves thoroughly about the current timetables in advance. Current reports on route closures and possible delays are available from Deutsche Bahn. Passengers can also use the DB Navigator app, which provides real-time information on departure times and disruptions. Information is also available via Deutsche Bahn’s X account.

But there is not only construction work in Bavaria. Deutsche Bahn has launched an extensive renovation program that affects important railway lines throughout Germany. The general renovation of the route between Berlin and Hamburg, which is one of the most frequently used connections, will begin in August 2025. The aim of these measures is to improve long-term performance and reliability in rail transport.

A central aspect of the restructuring plans is the development of a replacement transport concept in collaboration with various railway companies and countries. Examples of large construction sites that have already taken place this year include the Mannheim – Dortmund route and the Bielefeld – Hanover route.

Passenger rights in the event of delays

It is also important for travelers to keep passenger rights in mind during these construction times. If delays occur, passengers can claim 25% of the ticket price back for a delay of 60 minutes; for more than 120 minutes it is even 50%. In addition, the train connection no longer applies if there is a delay of more than 20 minutes at the start or destination station.

With this information, travelers can plan the coming days better and potentially avoid annoying surprises. Traveling by train will continue to be an important means of transport in Germany, even if it gets bumpy from time to time. However, if you are well prepared, you will reach your goal safely, even during the construction period.
