Action day Suchtmeile”: Prevention for all generations in Neumarkt!
On November 15, 2025, the “Suchtmeile” action day will take place in the Neuer Markt in Neumarkt. From 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. the doors will be open to all citizens to provide information about the topics of addiction and drug use. The event is organized by the addiction working group of the Neumarkt Psychosocial Working Group and has the motto: “Look instead of looking away – addiction concerns us all”.
Such an educational campaign is particularly necessary in times when the consumption of alcohol, cannabis and other drugs among young people is increasing alarmingly. “The effects of addiction are clearly noticeable in families, schools and the workplace,” says Susanne Schmid, an experienced FreD trainer. The event aims to appeal to a wide audience and reach both young people and adults.
Addiction prevention on many levels
The attractions of the action day are diverse. On a drug course, participants can experience in a playful way the dangers associated with drug consumption. An interactive quiz and creative work by those affected complement the program. Coffee and cake are provided to ensure your physical well-being.
The problem of drug consumption is by no means new in Germany. According to the Epidemiological Addiction Survey 2021, 11.6 million people in Germany smoke and around 1.6 million are addicted to alcohol. The developments are worrying and drug and addiction policy aims to reduce consumption and the problems associated with it. The focus is on education, advice and improved digital addiction advice, which is scheduled to start in the countries from January 2024.
Wide range of information
In order to effectively support addiction prevention, the Federal Institute of Public Health (BIÖG) is actively represented on social media. The campaigns include channels on Facebook, Instagram and TikTok that are specifically aimed at young people. The aim is to promote education about addictive behavior and the dangers of consumption. In addition to these social media activities, BIÖG also provides a number of information websites that address specific target groups such as young people or parents.
Commitment to addiction prevention is essential, especially as more and more people are affected by addiction problems. Figures from the Federal Ministry of Health show that around 1.3 million people consume cannabis for problems or suffer from a gambling disorder.
The “Addiction Mile” action day on November 15th sends a signal: prevention and education are necessary to combat the health and social effects of addictive behavior. The invitation is open to everyone – because the topic of addiction affects us all.
