Raid in Ulm: Nine drug dealers caught – investigations underway!
In the region around Ulm and the Alb-Donau district, the police launched a strike against suspected drug dealers and burglars. As SWR Aktuell reports, a total of nine suspects were arrested by the criminal police in a large-scale operation at the end of May and beginning of June. These people, aged between 16 and 50, play a central role in the criminal network described.
The raids took place in Laichingen, Blaubeuren as well as the cities of Ulm and Neu-Ulm and brought extensive results: In addition to a variety of drugs such as cocaine, amphetamines and marijuana, the investigators also came across a cultivation facility for cannabis plants. During the searches alone, around 15 grams of cocaine, 30 grams of amphetamine and around 375 grams of marijuana were seized, as the Schwäbische Zeitung reported. Drug procurement and distribution appear to have been a lucrative business for the gang.
Investigations and arrests
The arrests, which were made in close cooperation between the criminal police in Ulm and Neu-Ulm, are related to suspected illegal trafficking in narcotics in the region. This also goes hand in hand with several burglaries that were committed in Ulm and Laichingen. According to the investigation, non-ferrous metal and cash worth several thousand euros were the loot of these robberies.
A 28-year-old man from Laichingen is the focus of the authorities because he is not only suspected of an armed robbery at an arcade in Blaubeuren, but also may have played an important role in the entire game. He is now in custody. Some of the other suspects were released due to a lack of grounds for detention.
Drug crime in Germany
The incidents in our region are a small part of a larger problem. According to Statista, over 347,000 drug crime cases were registered in Germany in 2023, which unfortunately represents a sad trend. Cannabis remains the main drug, although its legal status since April 2024 has changed the situation somewhat. The number of unreported cases is probably much higher, as drug-related crime is a tragic facet of organized and street crime.
The number of drug deaths reached a new high in 2023, with over 2,230 victims. These sad statistics highlight the health and social problems caused by the use of illegal drugs, which are increasingly present in our region.
The investigations by the Ulm public prosecutor's office and the police are still in full swing. It remains exciting to see whether the arrests of suspected drug dealers and burglars will help to sustainably reduce the crime rate and make the region safer.
