Politically motivated crimes are increasing – police work under pressure!

In the last few days, the Munich police have registered several security-related incidents, including both politically motivated offenses and traffic accidents. On June 24, 2025, a national flag smeared with red paint was discovered at Karolinenplatz. The flag was confiscated and an investigation was initiated into violations of the flags and national emblems of foreign states. Commissariat 43 of the Munich criminal police is now taking over the further investigation. Witnesses who have noticed anything unusual in the area of Karolinenplatz, Brienner Straße and Barer Straße are asked to come forward. This was reported by the Bavarian Police.

Another incident occurred in the old town, where on June 23, 2025, a 48-year-old woman was observed showing a hand signal related to National Socialism. After police action, the suspect was released, but the investigation into the use of license plates of unconstitutional organizations is still ongoing. Commissariat 44 is responsible here.

Traffic accidents and robberies

An escape attempt by a 27-year-old motorcyclist in the Taufkirchen area ended with a dramatic traffic accident on June 24th. The young man, who wanted to escape the police officers, fell and was injured. A police officer trying to evade drove into a tree. The motorcyclist was arrested and now faces charges of driving without a license and under the influence of narcotics.

In another incident in Ludwigsvorstadt, the driver of an electric scooter fled from a police checkpoint on Lindwurmstrasse. The police patrol found two people, but both were able to escape on foot after they threw themselves while turning onto Waltherstrasse. The Munich traffic police have also taken over the investigation here. Witnesses are asked to provide information about how the accident occurred.

A frightening robbery extortion took place at the subway entrance to Sendlinger-Tor-Platz on June 24th, when a 25-year-old was threatened with a pistol by an unknown person. The perpetrator was initially able to escape, but a 28-year-old suspect was arrested nearby. There was an arrest warrant against him.

Politically motivated crimes in context

In light of recent events, it is important to look at the increase in politically motivated crimes. According to reports from the Federal Criminal Police Office, crimes in Germany increased by over 40% in 2024, indicating more than 84,000 cases. The focus is particularly on right-wing extremist crimes, which account for more than half of the incidents. Anti-Semitic attacks have also increased, reflected in a 20% increase.

Interior Minister Dobrindt announced a “security offensive” to counter right-wing and left-wing extremism. This concerns, among other things, how to deal with knife attacks and provides for an increase in the minimum sentence for such attacks. It turns out that politically motivated crime is not just a problem in Munich, but rather a problem for society as a whole.

The police are asking the public for help in curbing such incidents. Calls for witnesses were therefore published in several cases, such as the scribble on an apartment building in Sendling that was placed between June 19th and 20th.

Given these incidents, it is crucial that authorities and citizens work together to ensure safety in Munich and beyond.
