Chaos on the A94: Three accidents after thunderstorms and aquaplaning!

On Friday evening, July 11, 2025, a dramatic incident occurred on the A94 in the Mühldorf area, between Ampfing and Töging. The weather conditions were anything but ideal - severe thunderstorms with hail and heavy rain left the road wet with rain, which put several drivers in danger. Within a short period of time, three traffic accidents caused by aquaplaning occurred between 7:30 p.m. and 8:00 p.m Innsalzach24.

The accidents occurred as a result of improper speed on the slippery slope. A first driver lost control of his vehicle and left the road, merging into the meadow. A second accident occurred when another vehicle skidded and hit the median barrier before coming to rest on the shoulder. The most dramatic incident, however, was the third accident: Here a vehicle overturned after breaking through a wildlife fence and landed on its roof in a field. Fortunately, the extent of the injuries was relatively minor; one person suffered minor injuries.

Traffic chaos and backlogs

The effects of the storms and accidents quickly became noticeable. The A94 in the direction of Munich had to be completely closed for around 30 minutes, which resulted in a backlog of around four kilometers. Road users had to be patient while the fire brigades from Töging and Mühldorf as well as the highway maintenance department secured the accident sites and reopened the road, which slowly cleared the backlog. According to PNP it was confirmed that the heavy rainfall not only made driving difficult, but also caused chaos on the roads.

Good advice for drivers in such conditions is worth its weight in gold: adjusting your speed, especially in the rain, can make the difference between an accident and safety. The events of this Friday evening remind us of the importance of being mindful of road conditions and always putting safety first. So stay careful, even if the asphalt is smoothed by summer storms.
