New way of honoring young people from Miesbach: This is how commitment is celebrated!

There is news in Miesbach that focuses on the voluntary work of the young generation. During the citizens' meeting in the Waitzinger Keller, Andreas Kempf, an active volunteer and source of ideas for the youth parliament, presented a proposal to introduce a new honor category, which is to be ceremoniously launched at the city of Miesbach's New Year's reception. The planned “Young Commitment” category is intended to recognize the achievements of all volunteers up to 27 years old and show a visible step towards appreciation. [Merkur].

It is currently a challenge for many local clubs and organizations to find committed young people. The new honors approach could help here by focusing on young talents who often do not yet have decades of experience in volunteer work. “The proposals for the honor can be submitted by clubs, organizations and citizens,” explains Kempf, although the selection criteria should be made transparently by the city council or a commission. It is planned that up to three young people will be honored each year.

Praise and concerns in the culture committee

There are currently different opinions on this project. Youth speaker Christian Mittermaier (CSU) and Markus Seemüller (FL) express concerns about possible coercive regulations, while Mayor Gerhard Braunmiller (CSU) emphasizes the need for a clear framework. Family representative Malin Friese (Greens), however, is optimistic and supports the idea of structured appreciation. An agreement in the culture committee states that both the youth officer and the family officer should work out the regulations for this.

However, a first attempt to start the new honor at the New Year's reception on January 18, 2026 will not be implemented. Instead, the concept will be further developed until the next cultural committee meeting in March 2026, with the aim of introducing the honor at the New Year's reception in 2027. This initiative could not only give young volunteers an additional boost of motivation, but also highlight the diverse contributions of youth to society.

Collaboration with Caritas

Caritas Miesbach also plays an important role in this context. The Caritas Center has been cooperating closely with the Catholic parishes in the Miesbach deanery since 2002. The motto “Church is Caritas and Caritas is Church” shows the organization's commitment to promoting and living charity. As multipliers for the diverse Caritas offerings, the parishes make a significant contribution to promoting voluntary commitment. Caritas Miesbach is also known for its support through regular training, which creates a broad basis for volunteers.

The Caritas Center primarily provides contact points that enable volunteers to obtain comprehensive information about course offerings and assistance. In addition, a voluntary service is offered in the region, which is intended to promote the social skills and personality development of the volunteers. Engagieren explains that reflecting on practical experiences is also an important part of this. This stimulates interest in social issues and promotes intercultural and political education.

All in all, it sounds as if Miesbach is well on its way to making the outstanding achievements of its young volunteers visible and at the same time laying the foundations for better networking in community work. There is definitely something there!
