Pure medieval atmosphere: Waldecker tournament days inspire Miesbach!
The Waldecker Tournament Days in Miesbach are once again captivating visitors this year. From August 13th to 15th, 2025, the city will be transformed into a lively medieval backdrop, with consistently high summer temperatures above 30 degrees. The main attraction this year is the spectacular full contact Buhurt tournament, organized by the Sword Gym Munich, in which eight teams from the Czech Republic and Switzerland fight for victory. The rustic atmosphere and the rousing performances make the event seem like a journey back in time to the Middle Ages. Mercury reports that the Mamánci II team from the Czech Republic finally won the cup.
What better way to start such an occasion than with a festive parade? On the first day, August 13th, the big parade with everyone involved started at 10:45 a.m. Musici and the fanfare of Crachia Hausham accompanied the colorful hustle and bustle that led from the town hall square through the market square to the festival grounds. The gates opened at 11:00 a.m. and the market steward ceremoniously opened the merchant lane with a presentation of the goods and groups. This lively atmosphere not only attracts historical costumes, but also numerous visitors who can enjoy the diverse offerings at the over 30 stands. The Waldeckers report on a varied program that captivates viewers over the three days.
A day full of spectacle
The opening of the Buhurt tournament took place at 12:00 p.m., followed by exciting preliminary round fights until 2:15 p.m. At 12:15 p.m. the stage in the dealer's alley was animated with musical performances by Tentaculum, while at 1:00 p.m. Fabio the juggler knew how to enchant children and adults alike.
Other highlights include various musical acts and the exciting comedy “Witches’ Judgment” with Severinus, the executioner, between 3:00 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. The torchlight and fire shows in the evening are also an absolute highlight that makes many spectators rave.
Medieval delights and camp life
What would the Waldecker tournament days be without the right catering? Visitors can fortify themselves with delicious food and drinks at the beer tables in front of the main stage. The offerings include a refreshing mead, honey combined with strawberries or raspberries, as well as all sorts of savory dishes prepared over an open fire.
The organizers appear in late medieval fashion between 1380 and 1420 and invite guests to authentic camp life - an experience that is fun and reminiscent of the roots of Bavarian traditions. In a real medieval atmosphere, the participants spend the night in tents and are entertained in a rustic manner.
A big thank you goes to the Miesbach clubs such as the Kolping, Trachtenverein, and the Technical Relief Organization, who make a significant contribution to the organization of the festival and strengthen the community. The Waldecker tournament days end with a fireworks display for the senses on the last evening with a magnificent show at 10 p.m. This shows that the combination of history, festive atmosphere and communal togetherness has been very popular in Miesbach for many years.
A visit to the Waldecker Tournament Days is not only a pleasure for history buffs, but also an exciting adventure for the whole family. Get ready for medieval experiences!
