New stopping ban in Memmingen: illegal parking will soon have to pay!
From Monday, November 3rd, things will get serious in the east of Memmingen when the new no-parking zone comes into force. This measure was introduced on September 15, 2025, but now the regulation for illegal parking will be enforced more strictly. Vehicles that park in the no-parking zone for more than ten hours without a parking disc or parking permit must expect a paid warning. This marks the end of the transitional period in which information sheets were simply placed under the windshields. That reports memmingen.de.
The new regulation aims to ease the parking pressure in the east of Memmingen. In particular, the vehicles of travelers from the nearby Allgäu Airport have often caused trouble in the past. A circumstance that also prompted the city council to decide on the corresponding measures in June of this year. A total of 14 signs were put up that clearly marked the no-parking zone, and the total cost of the signage was around 10,000 euros, according to the report Mercury reported.
Improve parking situation for residents
Parking with a parking disc is still permitted for up to ten hours within the new no-parking zone, which extends over the area south of the A 96, east of the railway line and west and north of the Tiroler Ring. However, residents have the option of applying for an exemption. This costs 30 euros per year and allows residents to park without restrictions. Mercury explains that municipal traffic control will monitor compliance with the new regulations.
In the first four weeks after the new regulations come into force, a transitional regulation will apply: instead of warnings, notices will be attached to the vehicles. After this period has expired, the police can, if necessary, tow away those who park illegally.
A reason to celebrate?
Although the parking problem in the east of Memmingen is already a cause for concern for many residents, another event is coming up soon that invites many to celebrate: Halloween! This festival is celebrated in just two days, on October 31st, and is a big highlight, especially for children. Trick-or-treating will be back on the streets and costumes will be at a premium in stores. The people of Memmingen will once again create a spooky atmosphere this year, while the new parking rules will hopefully ensure a somewhat more relaxed atmosphere in the neighborhood.
