Wald fire risk in the Main-Spessart: Fire ban in several communities!

in Bavaria, especially in the Main-Spessart district, the situation is serious: Sustainable heat and drought have led to an increased risk of forest and vegetation. This applies in particular to the current situation, which is concise on June 25, 2025. For good reason, several cities and administrative communities have spoken out fire bans to protect the population and nature. So the District Fire Brigade Association Main-Spessart clearly caution.

The first measures included a nationwide ban on open fire in the Kreuzwerheim administrative community, which has been in force since today. This affects all places within the area, including Hasloch, Schollbrunn and Markt Kreuzwertheim. Here, exceptions are only possible for grilling in the private sector within closed towns under strict requirements. The use of municipal barbecue areas is only allowed after prior consultation.

fire bans in other communities

The administrative community Gemünden a. Main also follows and has issued an absolute ban on open fire, including fireworks and firm fireplaces. This applies, among other things, the municipalities of Gössenheim, Gräfendorf and Karsbach. In the city of Lohr a. Main has been using a general ban on open fire since today. Regardless of whether it is a campfire or fireplaces on private land, there is no space for open fire here. Only charcoal, gas and electrical grills may continue to be used in the private sector within closed towns. At the same time, warnings are urgently warned of the risk location in forests, hedges and dry meadows.

The city of Marktheidenfeld has not yet banned a fire, but continuously observes the situation and appeals to the personal responsibility of the citizens. Other municipalities in the district could also have banned, but there are no official information. The measures all aim to protect the population and avoid fires.

Current assessments on the risk of forest fire

A look at the general risk of forest fire shows that the forest fire hazard index (WBI) is determined by meteorological factors and is divided into five stages - from very low to very high danger. This division is crucial for a uniform assessment and warning of the state authorities, as explained by the German Weather Service . The WBI is updated daily to supply the population with the latest information. In addition, the Hessian Ministry of the Environment, Climate Protection, Agriculture and Consumer Protection provides information about the developments and, if necessary, about alarm levels that are adapted depending on the weather.

The responsibility now lies with every single: the citizens are asked to adhere to the applicable regulations so that people, animals and nature remain protected in the region. In the event of a change in the weather due to changeable weather conditions, the bans are safely adjusted. Until then, caution is better than forbearance!
