District league drama: Steinberg beats Johannisthal – the focus is on the goals!

In the Schweinfurt district league, the excitement reaches new heights from game to game. Last weekend, spectators were able to experience several thrilling encounters that provided plenty of thrills. The duel between TSV Steinberg and VfR Johannisthal was particularly interesting. Coach Dominik Woitschitzke from DJK Lichtenfels made a prediction before the game and predicted a 2-0 win for Steinberg. And he was right: Steinberg won 2-0 and with this success brought smiles to faces in the home stands, which accommodated 194 spectators.

The course of the match was characterized by an early lead. See scored in the first minute and immediately set the course for victory for Steinberg. The home team dominated until the 20th minute, but did not find the chance to further increase the result. An equalizer for Johannisthal was in the air, but goalkeeper Neder thwarted the guests' great chance. In the 73rd minute, Geiger was finally there and converted a penalty kick to make it 2-0, which sealed the final score.

More district league games

But that wasn't all the district league had to offer. FC Stockheim had to admit defeat against SG Steinbach/Hirschfeld with 2:4. In addition, Bastian Renk set up for Steinbach in the 8th minute. Stockheim showed fighting spirit and equalized 2-2 with a penalty in the 62nd minute, before Jamie Martin and Schwalb made the difference with two more goals in added time.

The encounter between SV Wolfers-/Neuengrün and FC Mitwitz also offered drama. Wolfers-/Neuengrün took the lead early on, but Mitwitz managed to score the winning goal with a hand penalty and later in the 95th minute - a real thriller!

The SG Küps/Schmölz had to admit defeat to the DJK Lichtenfels with 1:2. Karl Heider gave Küps the lead in the 6th minute, but Lichtenfels equalized in the 20th minute and scored the decisive goal from a penalty. The duel between FC Burgkunstadt and DJK-SV Neufang also ended in a draw after an exciting 90 minutes in which Burgkunstadt equalized in the 87th minute.

Players in the spotlight

On an individual level, Fabian Schmidt from Wolfers-/Neuengrün particularly stood out, as he scored his team's first goal right at the start of the game. Shehabeldin Abdelhafiz scored two goals for Freie Turner Schweinfurt 2, which paved the way for his team to win and thus make up for an early deficit. Patrick Leibold, player-coach of the Free Gymnastics team, can be proud of his team's good performance.

Football fans in the region can look forward to another exciting season. The state of the league shows that things are still exciting after 181 of 182 games. If you always want to be up to date, you can find out more from league contact Marco Heumann.
