High technology in crafts: exoskeletons are revolutionizing the future!

An exciting event by the FADZ business association recently took place in the future workshop Feasible in Lichtenfels, which dealt with the use of exoskeletons in crafts. Organized in cooperation with the FADZ Zweckverband, this was part of the “DigiCraft@FADZ” project, which is funded by the Bavarian State Ministry for Economic Affairs, Regional Development and Energy. The aim of the project is to test and further develop digital technologies in trade and industry in order to improve working conditions and open up new opportunities for employees. The Main Post reports that numerous guests were on site to try out the innovative technology first hand.

Among the speakers was Christian John, managing director of the John painting company, who reported on his experiences with exoskeletons in drywall construction. He emphasized that the use of such systems makes sense for around four hours of work and enables employees to carry out similar tasks for up to eight hours with less strain. This not only makes work more relaxed, but also more productive. Many participants had the opportunity to test various exoskeletons and discuss their areas of application in everyday life. The demand for such solutions shows that there is great interest in ergonomic workplaces. FADZ highlights that this technology not only improves the working environment, but also helps keep employees healthy.

Practical applications and testing

The event not only offered exciting lectures, but also a practical part in which participants could try out modern exoskeleton systems live. The feedback was consistently positive, and many representatives from sectors such as carpentry, painting, drywall construction and industry showed great interest in integrating these technologies into their companies. The FADZ informs that companies can borrow exoskeletons directly from the FADZ and test them in their own practice to check how they can improve their work processes.

A look ahead to the next event in the “DigiCraft @ FADZ” series on December 3, 2025 shows that the topic of digitalization in the craft sector is still on the agenda. This time the focus will be on innovative components such as 3D measurement technologies and virtual reality. In this context, VR glasses for training purposes as well as methods for digital object measurement with robotic tachymetry systems and drones will also be presented.

FADZ is strongly committed to making digital opportunities accessible to regional craft businesses. The aim is to comprehensively examine the influence of digitalization on business models, work processes and organizational structures in the industry and make it possible to experience them in practice. The Main Post reports that thanks to such initiatives it is possible to make crafts in Bavaria fit for the future.

Anyone who is interested in the topics of digitalization and ergonomics can already register for the upcoming event. Further information can be found at www.fadz-wirtschaft.de.
