New land use plan for Landsberg: Citizens are in demand!
What is happening in Landsberg am Lech? On December 1, 2025, important steps in urban planning were announced that are important not only for current residents, but also for future generations. On February 22, 2017, the city council set out to initiate the process of adapting the land use plan and the integrated landscape plan. Now, almost eight years later, the plans have progressed further and on November 19, 2025, the adjusted preliminary draft land use plan was approved by the city council.
The area of application of these changes extends over approximately 57.92 km² and includes not only the core city, but also several districts such as Erpfting, Ellighofen and Pitzling. The adjustments have become necessary in order to meet the requirements of urban development. While the land use plan is intended to help define important areas for living, working and leisure, the integrated landscape plan plays a crucial role in nature conservation and landscape management.
Public participation and deadlines
Now the next steps are coming up: public participation will begin on December 2nd, 2025 and will last until January 12th, 2026. Citizens are invited to actively contribute with their suggestions and statements. The relevant documents can be viewed online on the city administration website as well as in the city administration and the building regulations office. Opening hours are Monday to Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. to give citizens the opportunity to express their opinions.
The city will also strive to protect personal data in accordance with the General Data Protection Regulation and the Bavarian Data Protection Act. Doris Baumgartl, the mayor, will be responsible for this process.
A look outside the box: promoting urban nature
At the same time, there are also efforts in other regions of Germany to promote urban nature. The Urban Nature Master Plan, adopted by the federal government in 2019, aims to increase natural and species-rich green spaces in cities. Whether in Freiburg or elsewhere – special attention is paid to the professional maintenance of these areas. Measures such as preserving biotope trees and avoiding chemical fertilizers are just a few aspects that serve to promote biodiversity.
In scenic areas such as Landsberg, such efforts are particularly important in order to preserve habitats for numerous plant and animal species. The responsibility for this does not only lie with the cities, but also requires the support of citizens and various associations to raise awareness of the importance of urban nature. bfn.de highlights the importance of integrating biodiversity strategies into all administrations.
So while Landsberg am Lech is taking a step into the future by adapting its urban planning, the development of the urban nature remains a central aspect that should not be neglected. It remains exciting to see what ideas and suggestions come from the citizens and how they will be incorporated into further planning. The city must address these challenges in order to create a livable environment for everyone.
