SC Kelheim celebrates 80 years with a mega party and spectacular football!
SC Kelheim celebrated a big celebration in bright sunshine: from June 27th to 29th, 2025, the club's 80th anniversary was celebrated with numerous events and a colorful group of guests. The reason for the celebrations was the 75th anniversary celebration, which could not take place due to the corona pandemic. The festive days were all about community, respect and diversity.
The event began on Friday with an official ceremony: three cannon shots signaled the start of the celebrations. To the delight of those present, a friendly match took place between SC Kelheim and SC Thaldorf, which ended with a 3-1 win for SC Kelheim. The two players Fritz Nerb and Thomas Barwanietz were also able to enjoy a farewell game. Mayor Christian Schweiger, his deputy Dennis Diermeier and district administrator Martin Neumeyer were among the numerous guests who attended the event. The sociable evening ended with a Player’s Night.
Activities and Honors
But the anniversary was not only marked by sporting competitions. On Saturday the club's young talents were the focus. The G and F youth teams played exciting Funino tournaments, while the E youth team fought a thrilling duel against SC Thaldorf, which the guests won 2-1. In a fun tournament with six teams, VfL Kelheim took home the trophy. The Player’s Night was repeated throughout the evening, and everyone involved was thrilled by its convivial atmosphere.
On Sunday, however, things were traditional. A white sausage breakfast invited the guests of honor and the seniors of SC Kelheim to exchange ideas and celebrate together. The parade to the “Hopfenbach Arena”, SC Kelheim’s home sports ground, was another highlight. 1st board member Andreas Ipfelkofer addressed a few words to the guests and emphasized the immense importance of cohesion and youth work in the club. He was also able to welcome the 500th club member and awarded Emil Schlauderer honorary board membership.
A joint peace prayer by Pastor Pfeffer and Imam Ekrem Sivri gave the festival a special celebratory character. It once again confirmed the values that SC Kelheim stands for: unity and respect. Thanks also went to the numerous helpers who contributed to the success of the festival.
Club development and volunteering
Especially these days, volunteering is crucial to actively shaping club life. SC Kelheim can look back on positive developments in youth work, which is evidenced by increasing membership numbers. At an annual general meeting in March 2025, honors were not only given for long-standing memberships, but new partnerships were also agreed with sponsors in order to keep the club financially stable. Mayor Christian Schweiger spoke during the meeting about important renovation measures that are intended to improve the club's infrastructure. The maintenance of the access road to the sports field and discussions to improve the parking situation are important milestones for the future.
Committed members are the heart of every sports community. According to a survey, around 31 million people in Germany volunteer, with the largest proportion being in the area of sport and exercise. SC Kelheim has already shown a good knack for reaching out to volunteers. The continuation and intensification of voluntary work is essential in order to be able to continue working successfully in the future. The initiative to design volunteer management and recognize commitment is of great importance here.
The positive experiences and creative youth work of SC Kelheim will continue to provide inspiration and support the club on the way to the next anniversary round. SC Kelheim looks back on its history with pride and is full of enthusiasm for the future!
