Five schools from Kaufbeuren receive millions of dollar for equal opportunities

In the Kaufbeuren and Ostallgäu region, there are exciting news from the educational landscape: Five schools receive strong financial support of around two million euros each as part of the start of the Federal Ministry of Research and the Bavarian State Government. This program aims to create the same educational opportunities for socially disadvantaged students. Therefore, it is an important measure to reduce social inequalities in the field of education.

The beneficiaries include the Gustav Lutelt School and the Adalbert Stifter primary school from Kaufbeuren-Neublonz, the Beethoven School in Kaufbeuren, the state vocational school Ostallgäu and the Adalbert-Stifter primary school in Marktoberdorf. At the moment, 100 elementary and middle schools in Bavaria are already benefiting from this funding, and a total of 480 schools are expected to benefit from the coming school year. Schools are selected based on a Bavarian social index, which takes into account criteria such as the children's poverty quota and the academic quota to ensure that the support arrives where it is most urgently needed.

What does funding include?

The funds provided via the program are divided into three main pillars: First, around 820,000 euros per school flow to the creation of a modern and learning environment. Second, around 80,000 euros are planned annually for the development of school and teaching strategies, in particular through digital tools. Third, an amount of around 80,000 euros is also provided annually for additional staff, which should optimally support the learners. Overall, the promotion of schools will increase to more than two million euros per school over a period of ten years.

The starting chances program is the largest educational program in the history of Germany at around 20 billion euros. It aims to make educational success more independent of social origin, which the government classifies as essential for equality of opportunities. Over the next ten years, around 4,000 schools with a high proportion of socially disadvantaged students are to be specifically supported. The program is scientifically evaluated and should be continuously optimized in order to achieve the greatest possible effect by flexibly responding to the needs of schools.

The relevance of educational justice

The importance of educational justice is becoming increasingly clear in today's world. Regardless of gender, origin or social framework conditions, it is a basic pillar of a fair education system. Again and again scientific studies show that current educational inequality are strongly linked to the social origin of the students. The starting chance program could be a significant step in the right direction to ensure that the support of all-day schools, such as promoting all-day schools, and to prepare the learners in the best possible way for the future.

politicians of the free voters and CSU emphasize how important this support is, because educational success should not depend on the parents' wallet. The great financial means and structural measures are not only evident from targeted support, but also by the commitment that everyone involved is in the development of the educational offer. The aim is to halve the number of students who do not achieve minimum standards in mathematics and German until the end of the program time, which benefits the goal of educational justice.

Overall, the starting chances program is a significant step for education in Bavaria and Germany, and it is to be hoped that the positive effects of funding will be felt in the coming years.
