A lively exchange between Bavaria and Nördlingen took place in Kaufbeuren at the beginning of August when a delegation from Nördlingen visited the new fire station. The aim of the meeting was to gain a detailed insight into the planning, organization and processes of the modern guard. The delegation, led by Mayor David Wittner, included the parliamentary group leaders of the city council as well as fire department managers and was warmly received by Mayor Oliver Schill and city fire inspector Stefan Ostenrieder.

This excursion was the third stop on an information day that previously visited the cities of Illertissen and Lindau-Reutin. City fire inspector Ostenrieder introduced the guests to the history and basic functional concept of the new station. During a practical tour, the people of Nördlingen were able to learn about a fictitious alarm procedure that illustrated the route taken by the emergency services. “With the exception of a few small details, we would build the station like this again,” emphasized Ostenrieder.

Modern rooms in focus

The delegation paid particular attention to the training and education rooms, which are of great importance for the volunteer fire brigades. Workshop manager Manfred Herb gave interesting insights into the technical and workshop rooms and their processes. The interested visitors from Nördlingen were able to gain valuable insights for the planned new building in their city.

Mayor Schill praised the delegation's commitment and the valuable impulses that they took back with them to their homeland. “It is important to exchange ideas about such developments and learn from each other,” says Schill. The visit not only shows good cooperation, but also the passion for volunteer fire service work on both sides.

“With the impressions and the newly gained knowledge, we hope to be able to implement our own new building more successfully and in a more targeted manner,” Wittner concluded the informative day in Kaufbeuren. The delegation returned to Nördlingen with a wealth of information and fresh ideas, which will certainly be incorporated into further planning.

While such visiting delegations play an important role in the exchange about fire department modernization, other topics such as rule violations and their sanctions are also under discussion. In a different context is on the website Antaris Legacy discussed the possibility of “tiered sanctions” affecting players who violated rules. It is suggested that violations should be punished gradually to promote discipline.

The connection with fire service topics may seem distant at first glance, but the principles of organization and responsibility can be found at the core of both areas. Ultimately, commitment to safety and the community is relevant in many facets, whether in the fire department or in a sporting environment.
