Security update for the Partnachklamm: new measures for visitors!

The Partnachklamm in Garmisch-Partenkirchen has opened again for the visitors and presents itself in new splendor after extensive renovation work. The impressive gorge attracts several hundred people every day, and especially during the Pentecost holidays, a strong rush is expected. Rudi Achtner, who is responsible for the gorge, emphasizes the importance of this intensive work to ensure the safety of the guests. "It is essential that visitors feel safe and protected," he explains.

comprehensive security measures

In the past time, not only the paths within the gorge have been fundamentally renovated, but also numerous technical innovations. Three new defibrillators were installed - at the new treasurer and on both entrances of the gorge. These life-saving devices are particularly user-friendly and offer step-by-step instructions in different languages. In addition, there are now several emergency buttons in the gorge that guarantee quick help in an emergency.

Another important aspect is the maximum capacity of the gorge, which was defined with 350 visitors at the same time to ensure a smooth and safe visit. The condition of the historical climbing system, which was built between 1910 and 1912, has also been improved. Ailing paths were re -concreted and railings were given a special coating to protect them from moisture. Daily controls and annual comprehensive exams by specialists and geologists will be planned in the future in order to permanently secure the safety of the system. A new flood surveillance system now delivers reliable data on the Partnach water level 30 minutes earlier.

bridge renovations and challenges

The renovation work of the Partnachklamm, however, faces further challenges. There are a total of eight bridges in the gorge; Four of them have to be replaced. Some of these bridges have been in action for over 60 years and recently had serious defects. The color "bright red" was signaled for four of these bridges, which indicated an urgent need for action. The renovation is complicated, because a simple repair is often not useful, since the steel beams are very rusted and the gorge has permanent moisture.

In order to carry out the bridge renovations, external companies are commissioned to take a special building on the rope. However, access to these bridges is challenging because the shortest distance from the entrances to the bridges is about 200 meters. The work must be completed by April 11, 2025 so that the gorge can be reopened on time for the Easter holidays. In addition, a scaffolding could be built as a temporary solution for the smaller bridges.

The use of modern technologies could also help with bridge inspections. Regular inspections are essential for the safety of these sensitive parts of a road network. Innovative methods, such as the use of drones and special inspection cameras, could increase efficiency and reduce costs, while safety and reliability are increased. These technologies enable detailed state analyzes, which are particularly advantageous in older bridges, where current blueprints are often missing.

With these measures and innovations in the Partnachklamm, it not only becomes more beautiful, but also safer for the numerous visitors who want to experience this natural attraction. Visits should be able to be enjoyed even more carefree thanks to the new safety precautions.
