Super cell leaves Geiselbullach under water: fire brigade in continuous use!
Geiselbullach, Deutschland - A violent storm hit the village of Geiselbullach in Olching on June 17, 2025. While other parts of the Fürstenfeldbruck district were only slightly affected, Geiselbullach turned into a huge game of the forces of nature. The region gives intensive thunderstorms with heavy rain and hail that has transformed the gardens into a white sea. The Geiselbullach fire brigade documented ten intensive missions on a dramatic night.
heavy gusts of wind made numerous trees overturn in Geiselbullach and fall down. The streets were under water within a very short time and leaves were blown into the Gullis. In the heart of the municipality, the Rewe market particularly worried the emergency services, which is considered the largest Rewe market in Germany after a renovation in 2022. Around 500 square meters of retail space were flooded by water, which probably got into the market by downpipes from the roof.
intensive missions by the fire brigade
Overall, the fire brigade pumped about two centimeters of water from the Rewe market without major damage being found. However, the oncoming thunderstorm also led to considerable damage to property in a commercial building on Industriestrasse, where water penetrated up to one meter high into the basement. After five hours after sweaty, the work was completed around 1 a.m., and 30 emergency services and five vehicles were in constant use. The head of operations and fire brigade spokeswoman emphasized the exceptional amounts of water that were registered during the storm.
In addition to the missions in Olching, other regions report that a similar storm also had devastating consequences in Styria. As the Kleine Zeitung , strong weather also provided over 250 missions of voluntary fire departments. Heavy rain and gusts of wind led to fallen trees and devastated streets in particular in Voitsberg. A pattern can be observed that suggests the increasing frequency of extreme weather events.
The risk of global warming
A look at the recently published data of the German Weather Service shows that extreme weather phenomena increase due to global warming. It is expected that the trend towards intensive rains and storm damage will continue to strengthen in the coming years. Regardless of whether in Olching or in Styria, the development of recent years gives an idea of evil. Rising temperatures and no less than 342 flashes in just ten minutes during the thunderstorm in Geiselbullach are an urgent warning.
In times like this it becomes clear once again: It is not without reason that nature is unpredictable. Whether in Bavaria or Styria - the emergency services are challenged to fight against the moods of the weather gods. Scenarios such as those of Geiselbullach can affect us all, and there is a lot of work to be in front of the firefighters and those responsible in order to be better prepared for such storms in the future.
