Referendum in Fürstenfeldbruck: B2 relocation causes a stir!
What is happening in Fürstenfeldbruck? The city is facing a crucial decision regarding the B2 federal highway. A referendum will take place in January 2024 on relocating the road from the city center. Already on Monday, the citizens' initiative that is campaigning for this step presented an impressive 2,200 signatures. Mayor Christian Götz (BBV) announced this news at the city council meeting on Tuesday.
The discussion about the relocation led to the city council removing the issue from the agenda. We are currently checking whether the collected signatures are valid and whether the question meets the legal requirements. At least 2,000 signatures are required to initiate the referendum. The city council meeting at the end of November will decide on the formal admissibility of the citizens' initiative.
Voting schedule
The referendum must take place within three months of the decision. However, February is excluded due to the upcoming local elections. Therefore, the voting date is set for a Sunday in January. The city is planning to officially relocate the B2 to the truck bypass route and take over the inner-city route, which would also enable the renovation of the Amper Bridge. This bridge is now in a dilapidated condition.
According to department head Johannes Riedelsheimer from the road construction department in Freising, the deadline of three months for the referendum is justifiable. He sees the relocation of the B2 to the planned bypass route as the best solution to protect the interests of the city, the federal government and monument protection. If the B2 is retained, the Amper Bridge would have to be replaced by a new building that would provide space for pedestrians, cyclists and trucks.
Decision for the future of the city
The planned route of the B2 could lead to the B 471 at the level of the school center via Oskar-von-Miller-Straße. The road construction authority has already signaled that it will accept the city's decision, but is demanding quick clarification because the current structure no longer meets safety standards. It remains to be seen how the citizens of Fürstenfeldbruck will decide on the relocation, because ultimately they want to show a good hand for the future of the city.
