Christmas at Erlangen University Hospital: Festive joy for little patients

Christmas, the time of reflection and family, will be a little different this year for many patients at Erlangen University Hospital. How uk-erlangen.de reports, numerous people spend the holidays in the hospital, which requires extraordinary efforts from employees to spread the Christmas magic here too.

In particular, the children's and youth clinic under the direction of Prof. Dr. Joachim Wölfle has set up special campaigns to give the little patients festive moments. Santa Claus brought joy into the rooms, angels and elves stopped by, and generous donors presented gifts.
To further promote the festive atmosphere, the employees of the Building Management Department decorated the foyers with festive Christmas trees and set up an atmospheric nativity scene in the lecture hall of the women's clinic.

Blue light action inspires children

Another highlight was the big one Blue light campaign, which took place on December 17, 2025. The fire brigade, rescue services, police and the Technical Relief Agency (THW) worked together to ensure a wonderful Christmas. Under the motto “Happy Holidays,” a Christmas convoy sent greetings from the loudspeaker to the little patients. The Nuremberg Christ Child, Nora Falk, was also there and made the children's faces smile.

Small gestures of appreciation are very important in the run-up to Christmas. The staff at the university hospital do everything they can to make your stay in the hospital pleasant. As the landesgesundheitsagentur.at emphasizes, rituals such as Santa Claus visits and festive decorations play an important role. On Christmas Eve, a long-time employee entertains the stations with music and poems, which is a touching moment for many.

Joint celebrations and activities

The Advent studio of the psychotherapy station provides additional variety, where the occupational therapists offer craft stations for Christmas cards and decorations. There is also a room where cookies are baked and children's punch is served, which is always well received and creates a warm atmosphere.

The pre-Christmas period will be a special experience for all patients at Erlangen University Hospital, even if their hospital stay cannot be completely forgotten. Prof. Dr. Dr. h. c. Heinrich Iro, medical director of the hospital, would like to thank all employees for their tireless efforts, especially during the holidays, and wishes everyone a blessed Christmas and a good start into the new year 2026.
