Discover the Roman Villa Borg: an excursion to ancient life!

Perl-Borg, Deutschland - in Perl-Borg, the Perl-Borg, on the outer edge of the Saarland, the Roman Villa Borg inspires with its unique charm and rich history. This archaeological site is not only a treasure for historical lovers, but also a place that makes the life of Roman aristocracy reliable in detail. A discovery tour through the villa and the associated archaeology park offers the opportunity to immerse yourself in the Roman country life. The system is considered the only fully reconstructed area of ​​rule of an ancient villa plant in Europe, such as the Saarbrücker Zeitung reported.

The history of the villa goes back to 1900 when teacher Johann Schneider discovered the first traces of a Roman settlement. Over the years there were repeated interruptions of the excavations, especially through the world wars. It was not until 1986 that scheduled work began, which led to one of the largest Roman villas in the Saar-Mosel area. Today, visitors can admire the impressively reconstructed architecture, which includes a villa pool with tavern, residential and economic wing as well as a gatehouse. The archaeology park extends over 7.5 hectares and is a result of intensive research in cooperation with universities.

A look at the offers

Visitors can look forward to a varied program. In addition to the classic tour through the historical rooms that show finds and exhibits from 2000 years of Roman history, you can also take part in exciting experience. These tours, which are guided by various characters such as Slave Jatros or Legionnaire Tiberius, make a particularly lively impression and are specially intended for families and school classes. The duration of the adventure management is about 1.5 hours and costs 95 euros, whereby groups are also welcome.

Events take place regularly in the archaeology park, for example pottery courses and arches where old and young can actively help shape. A highlight are the children's experience tours, which as part of an entertaining program can convey more about the life of the Romans and can take up 25 children in the maximum.

The Tavern of the Villa Borg not only invites you to break, but also serves dishes according to ancient recipes, partly with ingredients from your own gardens. Here, guests can be hosted up to 120 people, ideal for festivals or conferences. The opening times are among the best prerequisites for a successful visit: From April to October, the villa is open daily from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., while in the months of February, March and November from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.

a festival for the senses

The six gardens on the property offer a special experience that provide insights into the garden world of antiquity. Guided tour through these oases of calm can be booked via the project office "Gardens Without Borders". Modern reconstructions are also available to guests where they can relax in the Roman style and have fun. One of the current projects at the location is a glass oven project that researches the ancient techniques of glass production. Here visitors can look over their shoulders and experience their traditional art up close.

With special anticipation, the upcoming exhibition "Veni Vidi Playmobil® 2025 New Roman - New Models" is expected, which can be seen until November 30, 2025. This makes the rich Roman story for young and old alive and will certainly become a visitor magnet.
