Drunk driving and theft: Police take action in Herzogenaurach!
In the past few days there have been several interesting incidents in the Erlangen-Höchstadt district that show how quickly you can get into trouble if you don't pay attention to the traffic rules. The focus is on traffic controls, thefts at parties and the dangers of drunk driving.
On Friday evening, July 11th, 2025, a car driver in Eckental - Eschenau was checked by the police. The driver, who presented a Brazilian driving license, has been living in Germany for over six months and should have had his driving license rewritten in the meantime. However, since he could not show a valid driving license, he was immediately stopped from continuing his journey. The driver is no stranger to the police, as he has already been reported several times for similar violations. A new criminal case has been initiated and it will be interesting to see how this story develops. Reported from Wiesentbote.
Alcohol control and theft
At the same time, there was an unfortunate incident at the church festival in Herzogenaurach. Children have apparently discovered injustice here: a boy of around ten years old wearing a football jersey was the victim of theft when a bank note was stolen from him. The boy was able to run away in an unknown direction before the police arrived. The Herzogenaurach police station asks possible witnesses to call 09132/78090.
But it's not just thefts that cause excitement. On Friday afternoon, a scooter driver in Herzogenaurach was checked during a traffic stop. The strong smell of alcohol made the officers sit up and take notice, and a breath alcohol test that could be used in court showed a level of 0.54 per mille. This means that the driver must expect a fine and a driving ban. According to the regulations in Germany, the alcohol limit for drivers is 0.0 per mille for novice drivers and people under 21 years of age. Things get serious from 0.5 per mille - there is a risk of fines and a driving ban, as the ADAC makes clear.
Alcohol limits and their consequences
The legal regulations regarding drunk driving are clear and unambiguous. Drivers who have a blood alcohol level of less than 0.3 can be prosecuted if they fail. 0.5 to 1.09 per mille is an administrative offense which, for the first offense, results in a fine of 500 euros, two points and a one-month driving ban. Above 1.1 per mille, you are deemed to be completely unfit to drive, which is punishable by fines and driving license revocation. It becomes particularly fatal above 1.6 per mille: Here a medical-psychological examination (MPU) is required in order to re-issue the driving license, as is also explained in [Jusora](https://www.jusora.de/verkehr/ Alcohol-am-steuer/).
In summary, both compliance with traffic rules and responsible use of alcohol are essential when driving. Whether it's a traffic stop or a quick treat at the festival - safety comes first and it's worth having a good instinct to avoid running into trouble with the law. The current events in the district remind us that one should never lose sight of a vigilant attitude towards road traffic and one's own safety.
