New commercial area in Erding: space for craftsmen and innovation!

In Erding, a new commercial center will soon bring a breath of fresh air to the craft and commercial scene. An area of around 40,000 square meters is planned on Anton-Bruckner-Straße, which will specifically offer space for small and medium-sized businesses. The idea is to support these companies in a thriving environment, explicitly excluding retail stores, as ed-live.de reports.

At a well-attended business reception in the multi-purpose hall on Lodererplatz, city developer Christian Famira-Parcsetich provided information about the progress of the project. Organized by Julia Flötzinger-Wilson and her team, around 200 guests from companies, banks and the municipal sector came together, including Mayor Max Gotz. He announced that the urban development committee will discuss the development plan next month, while the entrances to the new commercial area will be via Sigwolfstrasse and Dorfstrasse.

Plans and visions

Up to 20 buildings are planned that will give local craft businesses a chance. The plots will have different sizes, between 550 and 2,800 square meters, and therefore offer flexible use. The city of Erding has decided not to allow manager apartments or retail in order to focus on the craft sector, as Merkur states. Mayor Gotz also emphasizes the intention to keep the price per square meter low through legal measures. This is intended to keep the business attractive.

Another exciting project that is also coming up in the region is the planned research and technology location for the Deggendorf University of Technology, which is scheduled to be realized from 2026. An existing building near the train station will initially be used before looking for further development steps in the commercial area.

Challenges for the industry

But not everything goes smoothly. Manfred Gößl, the general manager of the IHK for Munich and Upper Bavaria, warned us in his contribution about the challenges that the global economy currently has to offer. Tariffs and rising energy prices could go against the grain and cause problems for companies. At the same time, there are also positive prospects: Erding could benefit from the strengthened Bundeswehr and the shortage of skilled workers could be alleviated through immigration.

Research by the BBSR on the sustainable further development of commercial areas shows the urban planning relevance of the new commercial area. This study deals, among other things, with urban development improvements and sustainable urban development, offering valuable recommendations for action for similar projects, as described by BBSR.

Overall, the commercial center is a step in the right direction to offer craft businesses a solid basis. It will be exciting to see how the project develops and what further impetus it will provide for the region's economy.
