Green market in Erding: parade in front of the elementary school causes excitement!

A change is coming to the city of Erding: From Thursday, July 3rd, the Green Market will change location. The new stage for regional products and fresh goods will now be located in front of the elementary school. The current space at Schrannenplatz will be redesigned in preparation for the Old Town Festival, which will take place on July 4th and 5th. How ed live reports, this move not only marks a spatial realignment, but also the hope for a more pleasant atmosphere for all market visitors.

The reason for the change of location is the recent challenges that the Green Market brought with it in the spring. Mayor Max Gotz (CSU) spoke of an “unpleasant development” that was discussed in the city council. Groups of 20 to 60 young people who gathered at the market caused anger among residents and passers-by. Complaints about insults, spitting attacks and obstructions in passing increased. Against this background, the police increased their presence and issued evictions in order to calm the situation and record the young people's personal details, they said South German newspaper.

Challenges and solutions

The city administration responded to the problems with various measures. For example, an additional trash can was placed, but without the desired effect. Tobias Krüger from the AfD parliamentary group also expressed concerns about noise pollution and garbage in front of the school. Gotz rejected the idea of a fence as a solution, emphasizing that it was not a sustainable answer to the situation. Dismantling a bench should at least partially help defuse the situation, while the other seating areas remain in place.

Thomas Schmid, head of the Erding police station, noted that complaints are currently not significantly higher than elsewhere. In addition, the colder weather could have a positive impact on the situation. “Police work may be having an impact,” said Schmid. In this context, the city and the “Brücke Erding” association are in discussions to find social-educational solutions that could offer young people new space.

Gerhard Ippisch, chairman of the association, emphasized the urgency of maintaining dialogue and creating alternative meeting places for young people. Second mayor Petra Bauernfeind and city council colleague Helga Stieglmeier have also tried to achieve a better understanding. During their on-site visit, they met some young people who were described as nice and with a regular everyday life. Bauernfeind noted that there is a lack of alternatives in Erding and that the large groups at the Green Market increase the volume considerably.

These challenges offer the city the opportunity not only to respond to acute problems, but also to find future-oriented solutions for a harmonious neighborhood. While the Green Market is presenting itself at a new location, it remains exciting to see how the city of Erding will shape the situation sustainably in the interests of all citizens.
