Maltese do a great job at the Summer Breeze Festival!
These days Dinkelsbühl is becoming a meeting place for heavy metal fans from all over the world. As part of the popular Summer Breeze festival, which this year attracts 45,000 enthusiastic visitors, the Maltese are making an important contribution to the safety and health of the guests. Around 400 volunteers are on duty, including twelve Maltese from the Ingolstadt and Eichstätt regions, who are full of energy to ensure that the festival remains carefree for everyone.
Particularly noteworthy are the dedicated employees Christina Feigl (30) and Stefan Degen (37), who are there as paramedics for the third time. Both took a week's vacation for their work in order to pay attention to the health concerns of visitors at the Medical Center during the festival. Degen and Feigl quickly agreed: "There's something here! We do this job with heart and passion." The collaboration with the helpers from Bavaria and Baden-Württemberg is described as consistently positive, which underlines the team spirit.
Comprehensive medical services
The medical center, in which nine volunteers from the diocese of Eichstätt work, is well prepared for emergencies. “We take care of everything, from wasp stings to more serious matters such as heart attacks or stomach problems,” explains Matthias Buchberger (39), who has been with the Maltesers since January and provides support in the areas of technology and logistics. The high temperatures of over 30 degrees have increased the number of patients: “We definitely have to be on our toes,” says Feigl.
The Malteser's main goal is to provide quick and effective care to festival visitors and, if necessary, to transport serious injuries to nearby hospitals. “We’re here to help and people appreciate that,” Degen added. The concept of the medical service was tailored to the festival and is therefore more extensive than at other events.
The commitment of the Maltese
The Maltese is a Christian aid organization that is not only active at festivals, but also in many other areas. For over 950 years, they have been helping people in Germany and around the world out of charity, regardless of origin, religion or worldview. The organization offers medical support at events, transports patients, provides support in times of crisis such as floods and pandemics, and ensures that children with ADHD are accompanied in schools.
Another important aspect of their work is supporting older people and helping refugees. Maltese youth are particularly active and promote early help through first aid courses, which also teach resuscitation techniques.
For the Summer Breeze Festival, the Maltese are above all responsible for health and safety, which is already proving to be a success. The festival guests behave peacefully and really appreciate the efforts of the Maltese people. With a dedicated team and a clear goal, the helpers are well prepared to continue to provide outstanding service in the coming days.
