Real Santa Claus Nicholes: Fair chocolate for children and the environment!

In the run-up to Christmas, the Catholic Young Community (KJG) of the Eichstätt diocese ensures fresh wind and relies on fairly traded chocolate Nicholes. As the diocese And at the same time to promote fair production conditions and sustainable consumption. This action could not be more appropriate, after all, the topic of fair trade is becoming increasingly important - not only for chocolate, but for many products of everyday life.

The KJG sells the lovingly designed Santa Clauses made of 60 grams of whole milk chocolate with a fair trade seal. They are 16 cm tall, show "real" bishop figures with miter and bishop's staff and cost 2.00 euros each. If you decrease a large amount, you can even benefit from a discount: When ordering 50 pieces, the price drops to 1.80 euros per Santa Claus. The KJG has a recommended resale price of 2.50 euros. As I said, these Santa Clauses can only be pre -ordered by the end of August, so that all chocolate lovers should react quickly.

The meaning behind it

What is behind this action? The KJG not only wants to sell delicacies, but also want to raise awareness of responsible consumption. Fair traded products secure fair prices and improve their living conditions. Chocolate is an excellent example to draw attention to the challenges of global trade. The Consumer center NRW emphasizes that workshops such as "chocolate" pupils of the 5th to 7th grade make this topic curious. Here the participants learn to recognize the differences between conventional production conditions and the principles of fair trade.

In this interactive workshop, the students go through seven exciting stations, all of which aim to promote sustainable consumption and can be perfectly integrated into different subjects. The idea of bringing young people closer to the knowledge of fairly traded products corresponds to the zeitgeist and creates a sense of responsibility that also goes beyond the topic of chocolate.
