Wald pigs conquer new terrain: Herrmannsdorf relies on nature conservation!
On the edge of the Herrmannsdorfer Landwerkstätten, 28 forest pigs have moved into new terrain. These animals are an intersection of the breeds of Swabian-Hälisch and Pietrain and contribute to landscape maintenance and to promote biodiversity. The Süddeutsche reports that the group is to be increased to 44 animals in the coming months. The pigs live in a unique habitat system that enables them to be slaughtered free in the first six months of their lives and at the age of about a year.
The intended areas for the animals comprise twice 1.5 hectares of forest, with a change of the area provided every two to three years. In addition, pasture areas of 1.5 and 2.5 hectares are available, equipped with huts, a feeding place and water. In this way, the forest pigs can live, root, acorns, herbs and animals in nature, and thus contribute to a particularly high -quality meat that is reflected, for example, in products such as forest bones and forest chop. This supports the project for natural pig farming, which not only serves a species -appropriate animal husbandry, but also promotes the symbiotic relationship between forest and pasture, as the Herrmannsdorfer
investments and opportunities for participation
However, investments are required for the successful establishment of this innovative habitat. Among other things, it is planned to plant a hectare of new forest, to build a safe fence against wild boars and to ensure the necessary infrastructure such as water and power supply as well as the renewal of the feed platform and water point. The Investigation to keep forest pigs already illustrates that a sustainable forest mast not only serves the health of the animals, but also the quality of the meat. Interested parties have the opportunity to take part in the financing of this project through a loan. Parts are available from 300 euros, with a maximum of five shares per person possible. The repayment takes place over 10 years and can be selected with interest rates of 0.5%, 1% or 2%. An additional attraction is the payment in the form of shopping vouchers, which makes the project even more attractive for potential investors. If you want to learn more about the life of the forest pigs or even take part in a guided tour, you can contact the responsible bodies at any time.
