Cyclist with 2.5 per mille falls in Ebersberg – witnesses wanted!

A serious bicycle accident near Gsprait on Sunday evening caused a stir and once again shows the dangers that can arise from drunk driving. A 23-year-old man fell on the bike path between Ebersberg and Grafing around 6 p.m. The young man was heavily intoxicated and had a breath test value of over 2.5 per mille, which brought the police to the scene. Fortunately, he was traveling alone and there were no other road users involved in the accident South German newspaper reported.

In the fall, the cyclist suffered moderate abrasions and a head injury that required medical treatment. Police and emergency services quickly arrived on the scene and took him to hospital, where his injuries were treated and a blood sample was taken. Because of his driving style, he is now being charged with drunk driving. The police have also asked anyone who witnessed the accident to report to the Ebersberg police station.

Drink driving trendy?

The incidents caused by alcohol driving are alarming. According to a study, 260 people were killed in traffic accidents under the influence of alcohol in Germany in 2014. In total, there were 13,742 alcohol-related accidents, nearly 40% of which involved young men ages 18 to 34, according to the report PMC. This is also reflected in the statistically recorded alcohol-related traffic accidents, which have been declining in recent decades but still represent a challenge for traffic safety.

Data from the Federal Statistical Office show that 86.8% of people involved in alcohol-related accidents are male and that most of these accidents occur on weekends. In fact, 23.9% of alcohol-related accidents occurred on Saturdays and 22.6% occurred on Sundays. Nighttime driving is considered particularly risky, with alcohol playing a role in 24.4% of cases, which underlines the urgent need for educational measures.

Social responsibility

With a clear focus on improving road safety, the federal government, together with various organizations, is pursuing various measures to reduce the number of accidents. This includes the Vision Zero strategy, which aims to achieve safe mobility without deaths and serious injuries on our roads. Despite the positive trend reversal in accident statistics, the fight against driving under the influence of alcohol remains a task for society as a whole that cannot be ignored in Bavaria either.

The incidents show once again that prevention and education when it comes to alcohol on the road are of utmost importance. People should be aware of their responsibilities and look out for their own well-being and the well-being of others, especially when it comes to driving under the influence.
