Cult piece The Cow in the Cinema: Anniversary performances begin soon!

Things are colorful again in Bavaria! The popular Bavarian family musical “Sternschnuppe” by Margit Sarholz and Werner Meier is celebrating a very special anniversary this year. The piece, which has been performed since its premiere at the Munich Lustspielhaus in 2006, has developed over the years into a real cult piece that captivates young and old. The story is about an adventurous cow who really wants to go to the cinema and goes on an exciting journey. And the best thing about it: The premiere of the anniversary year will take place on December 14, 2025!

On January 11, 2026, the musical can be seen in the old warehouse in Ebersberg, a great chance for everyone who wants to get to know the charming cow and her companions. The performances also take place in many other theaters and on various tours throughout Bavaria, which shows that the love of the stage is very important in the region. The production, directed by Ruth-Claire Lederle, impresses with an ensemble of six actors and a live combo with four musicians who provide the musical accompaniment to the musical.

The anniversary year 2026

The musical will be 20 years old next year, and to celebrate this occasion, special events are planned to mark the anniversary. This includes a large painting competition that has exciting surprises in store for both children and adults. The plot remains timeless and deals with themes such as courage and happiness that resonate across generations. The entire family, from four to 99 years old, can take part in this special experience.

A highlight of the story is the cow's encounter with the city and its various characters, such as the dumpling Fritz and Franzisco. Wearing a dirndl and high heels, the cow dares to skip the long queue in front of the cinema and satisfy her thirst for adventure. This centerpiece of Bavarian children's culture has been established in the Munich Lustspielhaus over a period of more than 10 years - that is a sign that there is a good knack for the right mix of entertainment and education.

Theater landscape in Bavaria

The Bavarian theater landscape is diverse. Theatergoers in our state have the choice between a variety of institutions, including 4 state theaters and 19 community theaters with their own ensemble. There are also numerous private stages and independent groups that round off the cultural offerings. The Bavarian Ministry of Culture promotes this diversity with a budget of over 336 million euros, which supports the operation of state theaters and the promotion of non-state theaters  stmwk.bayern.de is to be read.

The “Sternschnuppe” musical shows once again how important and lively the theater landscape in Bavaria is and what place a children's musical has in people's hearts. The ticket offering is diverse and allows spectators to conveniently book their favorite seat online or by telephone. Whether in Ebersberg or Munich - it's worth being there if the cow wants to go to the cinema again!
