Federal government invests millions in THW: New vehicles for Northern Swabia!

The federal government's investments in equipping the Federal Agency for Technical Relief (THW) are a positive sign for volunteers and security in Germany. How Augsburger Allgemeine reported, around 188,000 euros were invested this year in the procurement of new vehicles and equipment in the THW locations in Dillingen, Donauwörth and Nördlingen. Two vehicles alone, with a total value of around 100,000 euros, are intended for the Dillingen local association.

In addition, over 88,000 euros will go towards new uniforms, which will be purchased for the three local associations mentioned. The distribution of funds is as follows: Dillingen receives 48,417 euros, Donauwörth 27,400 euros and Nördlingen 13,000 euros. These investments underline the ongoing support of the THW by the Bundestag, which was highlighted in a press release by Bundestag member Christoph Schmid from the SPD.

Investments and planned projects

The federal government has invested consistently in the THW's equipment in recent years and can look back on an impressive balance sheet. A total of 893,600 euros have been made available for new emergency vehicles for the THW local associations since 2021 Christoph Schmid notes. This sum is part of a large program to increase operational capability in disaster relief. In total, over 1,733 vehicles worth more than 150 million euros were handed over to local associations as part of the SPD-led federal government.

Particularly worth mentioning is the positive resolution of the Budget Committee of the German Bundestag with regard to the 2025 budget. More than ten million euros are additionally planned for the THW, which represents a solid basis for future investments. In addition, the funds for the procurement of special vehicles for disaster control are to be doubled to 83 million euros per year in the future.

A museum for the history of THW

Investments are not only being made in the THW's equipment, the culture of remembrance is also being given a boost. Another important point is the planned funding of eight million euros for the construction of a museum that will document the history of the THW and the fire departments. This will be built in Fulda and serve as a competence and research center for German civil protection THW Federal Association.

Overall, these measures are a strong sign of the appreciation and support of the THW in Germany. The combination of financial support, new equipment and the planned museum shows that the federal government wants to visibly strengthen the volunteers not only in their work, but also in their history.
