Bullish heat in the Dillingen district: outdoor pools are booming despite the heat!

The heat wave has the Dillingen district firmly under control. On Wednesday, July 2, 2025, temperatures climbed up to 33 degrees. A weather that drives people to the water in droves to cool off. The outdoor pools and lakes are particularly popular. Numerous visitors enjoyed the cool waves at the Eichwaldbad in Dillingen, while DSDL plant manager Wolfgang Behringer replied that a record number of visitors was not to be expected during the week. Nevertheless, the Eichwaldbad experienced an impressive rush last Sunday with 3,005 bathers, the highest number this year. For comparison: In 2003, which was then called the “summer of the century,” more than 4,000 guests came to the Eichwaldbad on a single day.

These experiences in Dillingen are not an isolated case with regard to global climate change. According to reports about the summer months of 2023, the heat wave was not only felt in Germany. July 21, 2023 was documented as one of the hottest days on earth, with the global average temperature rising to 17.09 degrees Celsius. In other parts of Europe, many regions are also struggling with extreme heat and water shortages, which are sometimes even responsible for forest fires, especially in the Mediterranean region. This makes summer tourism increasingly difficult in traditional holiday areas, while cooler, northern European countries are benefiting from the trend. In Sweden, for example, there was an 11% increase in the number of overnight stays by foreign guests in 2023, showing that the reorientation of travelers has already begun.

Swimming lakes in focus

Those seeking relaxation are particularly drawn to the region's swimming lakes, which offer a welcome change from the heat. For anyone who longs to cool off, the bathing lakes in the Dillingen district are without a doubt a real treat. Here you can not only refresh yourself in the water, but also enjoy the beautiful nature. Exploring the region's swimming lakes and recreational opportunities is therefore a refreshing idea for locals and tourists alike.

Given these extreme weather conditions, it's not surprising that people are also developing a variety of strategies to cope with the heat. While the outdoor pools and lakes are busy, climate change is raising serious questions about the future of the summer months. The EU study on cooler holiday destinations already shows that people's travel behavior could be fundamentally changing, with regions such as Normandy and Brittany increasing in popularity, while heavily used southern holiday destinations are seeing a decline.

Whether in Dillingen, on the beach or in the forest – the hot summer doesn't leave us cold. It remains to be seen how summer trends will develop in the coming years, especially against the backdrop of intense global warming. In any case, the current temperatures are a clear incentive for everyone to enjoy the cool water outside and enjoy the summer to the fullest.
